Trance is kinda bad but you stick with it for the characterization, it's got a terrific localization unrivaled across the nation, it moves you like locomotion, feels good like rubbing lotion, makes you cry with sad devotion, you're gonna love it to the end of the Forsaken Ocean

9 is so good. You get used to the slow battles, but the rest of the game is so amazing you won't even care. The music, the characters, the entire world. I've played it 3 times and am now hankering for a 4th.

Awesome. Probably like 40-50 hours. All the FF games after like IV are kinda long, really, but you can zoom through 'em with minimal difficulty in closer to 30.

But really, they're all pretty atmospheric (well most of the older ones anyway) and so speeding through isn't the best idea.

Well I'm not exactly NEW to any of these games, I just have a major problem with finishing games in general. I've probably put 60+ hours into FF6 over the years on 2-3 saves, 20-30 in FF5 and 15ish on FF9. I already know that I like all three of them, I just wanted to know which would be the most "satisfying" to complete.

I was just interested in knowing the length because if any could be beaten in under 30 hours I'd probably start with that just to get it out of the way.

The beginning of 9 is kind of a bummer though.

FFV could probably be beaten pretty handily in 30 but you'd still be rushing a bit. Same with VI.

I like the beginning of IX just fine but if I'd gotten into the game today, eleven years later or something, yeah, it'd probably seem pretty tame. I instantly click with the cast chemistry though.

It doesn't take long to get there.

Just play for a few hours straight to get it out of the way instead of in small chunks that'll feel like an eternity.

Just finished up in Dali... Hopefully I can get to Eiko (AKA new content) before I stop playing tomorrow. Calling it an early night.

6 or 5 are the best. My personal bias is to 6 but some of that is just playing it first; both are very good and depends on your biases (6 is a more all-around complete game, but 5 has its sexy job system).

9 isn't bad but it feels generally inferior. The time spent loading a battle (which includes the pans) is just gross; you get like two rounds of combat done in that time in the other two games! Also I think FF5/6 have much more interesting character building (FF9 characters largely develop along straight paths, you just get their abilities by finding equipment instead of levels), and better battle design by quite a ways (lots of really quirky AI scripts used by FF5/6 bosses, 9's are far more plain).

I think the GBA script is better for FF5a but it's not a dealbreaker by any means. Adds some humour certainly but you really aren't playing FF5 for writing (pro-tip: if you're the type of person who plays RPGs mainly for plot, FF5 is certainly the worst of the games).

I'd say the FF6/9 are about 35-40 hours with FF5 a bit shorter, closer to 30, but obviously it depends how you play the games. FF5-6 both are kinda unique in that feature a fair deal of stuff towards the end of the game that is optional but kinda recommended - you can go to the final dungeon as soon as it appears but this will make it extremely hard, especially in FF6. Still, it lets you cut down on game time some if you wish.

Disc TWO!

Can't say I'm having fun yet though. While the events happening are cool and everything, the battle speed along with trance and the ability system will probably keep this game from entering my top 5 FFs. I don't know, maybe it's still too early to tell.

Also, I definitely forgot how....feminine Kuja was.
