I stopped giving people my cell phone number over a year ago, especially people that tend to contact me a lot (calls were 17 cents/minute SMS was 5 cents to receive and 10 to send, MMS was 25 cents). Now I have a new service that gives me 300 minutes, unlimited data, unlimited SMS/MMS, but no nights/weekends (but it's $25/month no contract so who cares). It averages out to about 10 minutes of talking. Overages are 10 cents per minute. This month, I used about 200 minutes on my cell, and mostly used my home phone and computer for free calls.

Kinda wondering if anyone here also just gives out their Google Voice number and if that's ever been a problem. Kind of thinking of giving out my cell phone number to some people, assuming they either need to contact me through my cell directly (who knows why), or if they're just texters (especially if they're MMS users since Google Voice doesn't support that) and not callers. Don't see a point in doing that though, so I want to know if anyone's ever had a problem for me to justify a decision that could get me overages if I don't watch it.

No. I have unlimited Texting and enough minutes where I hardly ever have to worry.

Nope, but IIRC, that's for people on contracts. I can't get a contract right now. My household has a landline because it's required for my mom's job, so the money that would go into a contract family plan goes into that. My family can't justify going for a contract when $25 plans existed (luckily, I'm grandfathered into that) when we have a landline we can share for what's really unlimited. Assuming I am in a situation where I could talk to someone for a long time, I am usually at home anyway. When I'm out on nights and weekends, I don't usually talk on the phone anyway.
