They have a handful of solid songs and a few really good ones but they also have a ton of songs that a 5 year old could have written IMO.

Never did see the appeal beyond a few particularly well-written songs but like a previous user pointed out, much of their work really could have been written by a five-year-old lyrically. Musically, most of their stuff has just never been my cup, anyway, but I can respect and appreciate when they've done what they've aimed for well. I just don't think it's happened as often as their fans would obviously state.

They're above average but they aren't good.

SoaD is really hit or miss with me. Some of their stuff is really good and some of it is crap. I guess that's what happens when you're cracked out every time you write a song. Also I can't really stand when bands get as preachy as they do...Most of the time their message is misguided or misinformed anyway. That said, Toxicity is stellar and I like Mezmerize as well even though a lot of people think they sold out their style at that point.
