I usually hate fighting game (except SSB, but those aren't real fighting games) because I suck so goddamn much at them and can't do **** so I get frustrated but with this game goddamn it's fun anyway. I play with the normal controls because I still have some pride in me and goddamn it's fun, I actually manage to do cool **** but I imagine those cool things are just basic attacks because every move seem to be awesome in this game. I can easily compare this game with SSBM/B in term of sheer fun, I played with a huge ass smile on my face the whole time.
Playing Phoenix/Morrigan/Tron atm, I love Phoenix so goddamn much, have some trouble with Tron but I guess I'll get better eventually !
Also I can't really figure out how the hell I'm supposed to dodge Galactus' attacks, I beat him but usually with only one character badly injured, I know I can block some but the rest just hit me in the face.

Goddamn. I just played through the Arcade Mode twice and had the hardest of times ever to beat it, first time I won with Dark Phoenix with like 0.001% Hp lest (couldn't see the bar). Never managed to win the second time.
And then I realized I was playing on Normal, Normal is too hard for me atm it seems !

Say if you pick Ryu a do a standing heavy on an opponent you can do a hurricane kick during the animation of the heavy to continue the combo and then during the hurricane kick's animation you can do a super during the animation of the hurricane kick.

But yeah if this is your 'first' fighter, just being able to whip out specials consistently is the first hurdle. Once you get that, canceling into specials is very easy.
Basically cancels make up combos. You cancel attacks into each other to make combo s You can cancel attacks into supers and cancel supers into others Its just a fancy word
You should get in training mode and learn the basics with Ryu and Akuma since they're the easiest to pick up. Once you get the hang of them move on to other characters and apply what you learned

Phoenix builds bad habits and is the character most people are going to focus on killing first. If you don't have characters that can build meter effectively she's far less of a treat.
Besides i never said you have to play them in real fights, just go training and practice the basics with them since they're the easiest to pick up.

Tron is mediocre on point but her Gustaff Fire is one of the best in the game. She has a such a small hurt box (like only her robot's feet can be hurt) and it really versatile (eats projectiles, anti air, get off me, combo extender and lockdown)

MVC3 is a great introductory fighter, as is MK9 tbqh. Both are so simple to get into, but with plenty of depth when you get good, and then you can transition to others.

Any direction plus Special(I think that's the button, whatever the launcher is) will do that, but if your opponent matches the input, it will be cancelled.
Use Reflector for most situations... HHHHHH for her ground combo is amazing, then go into air and HHHH again. You can counter physical attacks and projectiles with the shield as well. Switch to beads and spam for long range control. Glaive is rarely used except for some more advanced combos.
She has good team synergy too. Her beads assist is great for cover, she has a projectile reflect assist also. Her main super is a near-fullscreen damaging one that is great to DHC out of. Her veil of mist works great with some combos from other characters and you can DHC into it for the DHC glitch.

I'm on Mission 6 with X-23 and I can't do it for the love of me. I have to do this :
Air S Standing L Standing M Standing H Crouching H Neck Slice (236 L) Rage Trigger (236 AtAt)
I can do Neck Slice and Rage Trigger on command all the time but I can't do Crouching H to cancel into Neck Slice even if I input the 2 commands as fast as I can, it's getting pretty annoying !

Also I hate the fact that I can pull-out comboes super easily with the joystick but can't with the pad, but I can't control my character's movement at all with the stick ._.

Struggling in Mission Mode seemed to have paid off since I managed to beat Arcade using almost only X23 with no assist nor crossover hyper combos. Actually it's not that hard to move with the pad and combo with the stick, the move is quite natural I'm glad.

Cheap win is when you win by chip damage IE kill someone who's blocking with Shinkuu Hadouken.
DLC characters aren't worth it. Shuma has an assist that could be useful on some teams but he's one of the worst characters in the game on point. Jill is over complicated and just not worth using since she offers so little for learning her.
