SPOILERS I GUESS FOR THE MOVIE AND BOOKS MAYBE

I mean, I knew the epilogue in the book was bad, but oh my god they managed to make it terrible in the movies too. The entire theater was laughing whenever they showed someone grown up.

i thought the entire book was a disappointment... the movie wasn't very good, but i think it was as a result of source material failure.... it accentuated the painfulness with which i had to read those last hogwarts chapters

not the only one... i had a ton of problems with the overall balance of the book. horcruxes for example:

the good:
- spend 6 months to torch one horcrux precipitated by dumbledore's death, snape's tipping his hand, and the ultimate collapse and rebirth of ron's relationship

the bad:
- the grey lady (who???) coming out of nowhere with a sad backstory about ravenclaw's diadem

the ugly:
- crabbe and goyle wind up destroying ravenclaw's diadem. crabbe and goyle.

The actor that portrays Crabbe (or Goyle? ...whichever) got arrested on smoking marijuana charges. He was booted form the movie and written out of that scene.

i was wondering who the random black kid was. that messed up everything really, as in the books it was crabbe that killed himself with the fiendfyre, but in the movie he wasn't even there so goyle had to do it.

i remember the grey lady from the books. there was some definite foreshadowing of it IIRC, i think harry saw the diadem when he was in the room during the sixth book and just didn't think anything of it.

plus the grey lady was played by kelly macdonald who i am mildly in love with so she was a pleasant surprise

Yeah, grey lady definitely had a couple of references throughout the series and the diadem was foreshadowed too, it was near where he left the potions book.

The Grey lady was mentioned in the very first book. She's one of the house ghosts. So I don't really think it came out of nowhere.

I don't see a problem with Crabbe and Goyle (or Goyle and Blaise Zabini) destroying one of the horcruxes either.

Unless I missed something, those two didn't even destroy the diadem in the movie. Harry stabbed it with the basilisk fang and then threw it back into the room before the doors closed.

well i don't mean it to that degree really, i just meant it messed up the scene

in the books crabbe started becoming less loyal to draco because he knew lucius had fallen out of favor with voldemort. goyle not so much, mostly because crabbe was from a much higher regarded family of dark wizards (IIRC he's related to bellatrix and the blacks). crabbe summoned the fiendfyre and cast avada kedavra at hermoine against draco's wishes. goyle never really acted out of line so it's just weird that he'd be cast in that role in the movie and even weirder that crabbe isn't there at all.

That's a problem some people had with the book as well. If you look at the list of people who destroy the horcruxes, you have:

Voldemort himself
Dumbledore
Ron
Hermione
Harry
Neville
...and Crabbe.

Like, I don't see the problem with it, but I do think it's funny.

To be fair, in the book I didn't like how Fiendfyre was one of the few things that could destroy a Horcrux (and it wasn't even mentioned at all at the start of the book) and Crabbe just so happened to cast it.

I do see your point, but the movies =/= the books. None of that is ever mentioned or implied about the distinction between Crabbe and Goyle in the films, so in the end, for the purposes of the film, it doesn't matter.

I don't think he's really from a much higher regarded family of dark wizards. I mean... Draco himself is Bellatrix's nephew. I'd wager most pure blood wizarding families are related in some way to the Blacks. We don't really get much information on Crabbe other than that his father was a Death Eater.

I was being sarcastic. There'd be no way to do a scene like that. It's just weird that no one ever mentions or discusses the fact that the main villain of the entire series is dead and it made it so anticlimatic. I liked how everyone in the books saw it and there was a huge cheer and everything. You can be in grief and still celebrate.

Yeah and I loved the scene in the book so don't get me wrong but there was a kind of "just you and me" about it. This whole movie did a great job of pushing the side plots aside (in a good way imo) and just make it about Harry and Voldemort. Like I get why some of the changes would be annoying but as a movie that was pretty much the right decision to make.

Because how they did it in the movie, by making it more condensed, there was no way to have people standing around.

the grey lady was mentioned in the books but her significance felt very random. learning about her TRAGIC PAST was totally out of place

the point about crabbe/goyle destroying the diadem is because they have had zero significance, zero character development, and zero indication of magical competence throughout the series. the fact that crabbe suddenly knows insanely powerful dark magic and is destroying 14% of voldemort's soul is offensively stupid.

i got a good laugh out of seeing him shooting fire like a f***ing idiot out of wand though

Well, just saw it for a second time. My girlfriend swore to me that there are people watching Harry/Voldy's final fight...and she was right. She pointed out 2 separate shots where you could distinctly see students in between the arches, each shot less than a second long. There was also one shot right before Neville slashes the snake, where the camera's on Harry, but you can see ~20 students walking down the steps and noticing what's going on.

Strange thing is, there are also shots which show the same locations with nobody there, including the area by the stairs, after that shot of students on the stairs.

I dunno, it didn't look that bad on the commercials.

Of course the way I read that scene, it seemed like such a ridiculous stunt that would never work so obviously Harry was just doing something unexpected to get out of a jam and possibly gain the upper hand, and his plan was never "yes we will both fall to our deaths the end".
