I recently joined Twitter last week, and I'm already bored. I've never been the most socialable person in the world. I felt instant messaging was a great step forward for me, because as a teenager, I had a great fear of rejection. I grew out of it and now, I don't really bother with people in general anymore. If I do, it is in face to face meetings. Posting meaningless status updates or playing FarmVille doesn't strike me as evolutionary progress. While it does give access to more people at once, I think it also creates plenty of problems. People on Facebook tried to use my likeness to screw with my relatives, and I've seen people posting to each other on Twitter while "chatting" face to face. There's the case of Roy Williams (Cowboys WR) sending a $76,000 engagement ring through the mail. Obviously, that failed, and one has to wonder if in this age of internet interaction, we've lost how to communicate with people. Social interactions will continue to change. What way will they change, and what impact will they have?

I have a facebook and a twitter. I use facebook sporadically -- quite so -- but when it's useful it's damn useful. I very rarely use twitter for anything other than following game developers and the like and posing various questions to voice actors.

it's funny to see someone so clearly socially inept concerned about people losing the ability to communicate. people who don't view joining facebook or twitter as a big deal are generally doing just fine
