I come from LA, which is, you know, a huge city. I'm currently in a much smaller town on a vacation, only 6000 people, the economy of which revolves completely around tourists visiting their ridiculously nice lake (trust me, this is an amazing lake) and several ski resorts during the winter. I rarely go to small towns, but when I do, I've noticed something (not just here, but other places): the food isn't as good. I mean that I went to the market, a Vons, and I go to Vons in LA all the time, and the snack food I bought to eat at the hotel between jetskiing and stuff is just not as good as what I buy in LA, even though it's the exact same stuff. I noticed this last time I was in this town, but I figured maybe I'd just got a bad batch of food for whatever reason. The salsa and chips, the fruit, even the soda, it's just not as good as what I can buy in LA and I am at a loss to explain why.
Maybe it's just the small towns near LA? Or maybe I've just gotten really unlucky several times in a row? I don't know, can I get the opinions of other people from large cities who visit small towns, is the food also not as good in your opinion?
Not that any of this really matters, I still have to buy the food here because it's not like I brought food from LA with me, I just thought I'd post this.

I think it might be more of a "hometown vs. away" thing than a "L.A. vs. small town" thing. I noticed when I moved to Kentucky (I moved from a town of around 5,000 to right outside of Lexington, which has around a half million folks) that the food there was worse than the stuff I was used to in Maine. No explanation why, either - it's the same product, after all. Maybe you feel like everything from your home area is better than everything everywhere else. Maybe you're not familiar with the store so you subconsciously distrust it and want to find faults with the product. It could be any number of things, but I wouldn't say that it's a big town v. small town thing.

I didn't notice much difference in the food quality when I lived in Maryland versus now in California, and I've lived in rural, suburban, and urban areas, so I'm not sure what it could be.

This makes the most sense and is consistent with Anagram's character.

Probably psychological, though if the food in question has different plants in different areas, there might be slight variances in the ingredients perhaps.
