From: KamikazePotato | #148 I'm sure it has bad fans just like all of them do, but Phoenix Wright topics are usually lots of fun, and the fans love to rant and rave about it. There are also wild disagreements on nearly everything, so it makes for fun debate.
Congrats, you just described the Earthbound fanbase. Only difference is you don't like it!
Earthbound fans don't rant and rave. I think like 10% of posts I see about Earthbound mention anything specific about the game. I've also never seen an Earthbound debate that was something other than "this game is good" vs "this game is bad" or "this game's humor is bad" vs "really"

I don't care about what fanbase can sell their games the best. That doesn't matter to me! If that were the case than I personally would be the #1 fanbase on B8.
It's not about selling it's about saying anything about the game. The idea of actually talking about the game is apparently above the Earthbound fanbase. I think the only specific thing I remember being talked about Earthbound on b8 (that wasn't a blanket "quality" statement) was The Third Strongest Mole. Seriously.

Like it's possible to not be offensive and yet still say something that's interesting about your game. Fire Emblem fanbase on b8, for example. Topics are usually interesting to read and somehow don't always degrade into walls of rankings which is nice. Yet they don't make like 10 topics a day about trifling things.
I'll second the Fire Emblem fanbase. Granted, we get pretty passionate about trivial things (see: the entirety of competitive tiering/debating), but that's usually kept between the hardcore fans.

As I said, there was nothing inconsistent there because no one "rants and raves" about Earthbound. Earthbound discussion consists of displaying your "I like Earthbound" badge and leaving.

I'd rather have "We are all entitled to our opinions" then dozens of 300 post topic about divisive opinions repeated ad nauseum (a.k.a the MGS fanbase).
Well I said the MGS fanbase is bad too, for those very reasons. (And to a lesser extent the PW/FF fanbase)
Unlike the Earthbound fanbase though you'll occasionally get an interesting discussion there. So yeah. Better I'd say.
Now if you want a fanbase that's cool because it doesn't go off on tirades you want something like Castlevania or Kirby because at least they'll shut up about their games if they have nothing interesting to say about them.

No, the Sonic fanbase is the worst. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't good fans. My S3&K topic has been loads of fun. I enjoy passionate fans who like to argue. It just depends on what you get passionate about. Sonic fans get passionate about the wrong things, and that's part of the reason why they suck.
Viktor Vaughn posted... the worst fanbase is video game fans
This is pretty close to the truth.
No fanbase is empirically better than another. In terms of the ratio of nuts to normal people, Madden was the best guess, but the fact of the matter is that every fanbase has people that take a game, television show, or book series and make it part of their lives to an obsessive degree. Dismissing a fanbase as bad just because such people are visible is stupid, because then NO FANBASE is a good one. You can tell a story about which fanbase you've had the most pleasant experience with, or which one has kooks you're most afraid of, but nobody, least of all you, can say which is the best fanbase.

Well once in a great while you'll get a Kirby or Castlevania discussion going
And it'll usually be pretty good if it happens
I think they have as much to say as Earthbound fans do they just don't bother to open their mouth to say they like Castlevania and Kirby (and leave it at that) every 5 minutes

SantaRPG posted... What's wrong with the minecraft fanbase?
For one, the fanbase is really young...but wait a minute, this isn't a downside for you.
But anyway, even though there are plenty of adults who play, I've never seen so many annoying twelve-year-olds who have a false sense of superiority because they play Minecraft. I've also never seen so many people praise/worship one guy before. Seriously, going on the Minecraft forums or following his twitter, it's ridiculous to see how many people call him a "programming god" (despite doing a good job of proving otherwise with the bugfix update) or just reply to any tweet and call him awesome regardless of content. Dude made a tweet about eating breakfast, and there were still replies of "Why are you so awesome, Notch?!" I've seen dev worship before, but not this extent.
Aside from the kids that play, many of the adults are just kind of...weird and obsessive. I guess Minecraft kind of appeals to people's OCD, so this is expected. Still, if the first thing I heard about someone was that they were an avid Minecraft fan, I'd be wary of that person until I could confirm that they were a well-adjusted and functioning member of society.

From: Shoenin_Kakashi | #187 I thought most DOUK fans hated it?
I'm pretty sure there are more and different people trashing on DNF now than the group of people that were actually and earnestly disappointed when 3DRealms went under.

Thief fans. They're a bit down on Deadly Shadows, but that's only because of their great love for the larger environments that the PC-only Thief games provided.
From: KamikazePotato | #172 Basically any message board dedicated to FE. Nothing but stats stats stats complain complain complain.
Most FE communities outside of the GBA FE boards on this site (and the Radiant Dawn board a bit) are pretty good in my experience. I've had a ton of good experiences with discussion on board 8 and the less popular game boards here, and I go to serenesforest a lot because there's usually a pretty minor amount of trolling and bickering compared to the actual discussion.
Anyway, I don't know about "series" but for a game...honestly, I might have to say FFVIII. I don't care for the game much but I've had a lot of fun discussions with fans of it, it's even produced some of the very, very few GameFAQs users who I ever talked to routinely off the site. I wouldn't still be posting on the board here for it if I didn't like that community, and while there are some idiots, it's no more than the average fanbase. Now if only they had better taste in games it would be perfect! <_<
