anyways, I've been advised a couple of times to go ahead and start with V, even though I own VIII and IX.

I'm still settling in, but once I'm good, I'll start here in a bit

still seems kind of weird to me to not play Dragon Warrior 1 first though. For a series that's so adamant at maintaining the same gameplay featured since the beginning you'd think you would want to start there and work your way up. Plus it's only like a 10 hour game at most

Believe me, I would normally play games in order, but I dunno, I don't think I can get the games (Unless they release that compilation).

anyways, The king was expecting a son, and the mother gives birth and names him Cudo

the mother has complications and then we fast forward to when the baby is a boy, they're on a ship and he tells him about a dream he had about him living in a Castle

he laughs and tells him to go walk around


alright, I find it amusing that I can just break barrels for no reason

I go through everybody's drawers and find stuff

I go to the basement and Find like 8 chests that are locked

note to self, this will be important later

okay so they were picking up some passengers

a dude and his two daughters

my dad asks me if I got everything, and he told me if I checked every drawer, pretty much encouraging me to rob everyone

I said no and figured I'm supposed to mingle with the two girls that came on board, but unfortunately they have nothing important to say

I do another round and don't find anything else so I'm gonna talk to dad so we can take our leave

okay so I leave the boat and some dude approaches us and talks to dad, he tells me to go out and play.

obv this means destroy every barrel in sight and raid drawers, but once I did that, I left the docks and got ambushed by some slimes. I figure I shouldn't be doing this so I tried fleeing but they blocked the way, dad shows up and saves my ass and tells me I...well..shouldn't be doing this lulz

so I start following him and we go into another battle where I level up


I must say, I'm disappointed with the battle system, first person, you don't see your characters attack

Okay so we go inside Sancho's place and this girl invites me upstairs to read a book she can't read

then she leaves

anyways, dad leaves the house. I go out and talk to everybody and find out some guy is missing so I'm assuming dad went to go find him

I went inside the cave and to my surprise I have some freedom here

so I start, what else, grinding!

the only problem so far is I can't find a place where I can replenish my HP

So um, I'm at lvl 7 now!

according to the priest, I need 500 exp to get to lvl 8 so uh I'm stopping here >_>

I found a pot lid at Sancho's house but I can't equip it

I can afford the best sword at the weapon shop but I think I'll hold off on it since I can OHKO everyone anyways, and besides, I'm sure an armor shop will pop up and I should save up for that

Time to talk to dad and advance the plot

I found the guy that was stuck in the cave and freed him, instead of exploring further, I decided to check up on the guy

I got some armor as a reward!

I decided to take a nap and when I woke up, they were in my house and I was asked to help escort them into town so I said yes

I hope I'm not missing anything in the cave >_>

I believe I will be spending 400 of my hard earned 800 coins on this

okay, We found some kids bullying a cat and they told us we can have it if we kill some ghosts at some towers

This is actually one of the few games in the series where Chimera Wings work differently. Because of the different way the plot is handled, they'll only take you to the last town you've visited.

And you'll keep levels and stuff when you move on, don't worry.

okay, I have the boomerang

and apparently the monsters inbetween the two towns are really strong and give lots of exp and gold

HOWEVER, thanks to my excessive grinding earlier, and having the boomerang, I can actually fight them!

I just have Bianca turtle and Cudo toss the Boomerang everyturn and I beat them

after several rounds, I go back to townand now have enough money for all the latest armor and weapons....FOR BOTH OF THEM

Time to grind some more!

They're both currently on lvl 8

I've heard that DQ is a grindy series so I figured I should exploit anything I can as soon as I can

DQ isn't grindy. That's only an excuse from people who don't know how to play very well. It's a challenging series, and grinding does make it easier (obviously), but aside from the earliest games in the series, you can get through the games without needing to grind at all if you use strategy..

In any case, DQV is probably the easiest of the first seven games anyway. The remake is even easier, especially since they added a new item that makes most battles into jokes.
