I've been trying to play this game for a while now since I bought 1 & 2 on a Steam sale a wihle ago, but, not only am I not really interested in anything that's going on, but the game's pissing me off now

what's mostly pissing me off right now is the stupid vehicle piece of garbage and lack of auto-save. First, I got my car completely stuck in some spot and had to reload my last save because I couldn't even get out of the damn thing. Just now I accidentally veered off the edge of the road and have to reload an old save AGAIN. ****. And did I mention the vehicle is totally unfun?

So yeah, I'm completely uninterested in the game, and right now I totally don't want to bother with it.

I really wouldn't recommend skipping it. But yes, technically you can if you watch the "Mass Effect: Genesis" thing.

If you have zero interest in anything that's going on, though, I'm not sure you'll suddenly sprout a bunch of interest about the plot when going into its second third. You might just want to skip the whole ordeal, and that's coming from a huge Mass Effect fan.

And I understand that the controls for the Mako are bad but they're not that bad.

There should be an auto-save feature. Maybe yours is turned off? Either way, the game can glitch up, so remember to save often and in different slots.

The ME series is pretty story driven. It's laughable that Bioware tried to make up for the first game on PS3 with a five minute comic. It's necessary to understand the plot and really get the best experience out of the ME universe. I say stick with it.

That said, the original game isn't for everyone; it isn't as broad in its appeal as ME2. Some people can't stay interested through the first romp in the Citadel. Others give it up during MAKO sections. However, you can skip most of that stuff and just focus on the main story if you want; that can be played through very quickly. ME1 is a bit slower in its action and focuses more on exploration and customization. It isn't considered as good as the sequel overall, but a surprising number of the hardcore fanbase prefer it to ME2 because of its differences.

Press F6 to quicksave I believe. Saves you a LOT of headache. You need to do it like every five minutes, or when you know you're about to enter a big fight.

And the Mako is very frustrating, I know. That thing is a piece of s*** in every way. You pretty much just have to take your time. Don't try to drive and shoot at the same time either. You can figure it out. The rest of the game is worth trudging through that crap.

People have actually boycotted PC games that prioritize autosaving. Crysis 2 is the most recent example. This is just how PC gaming works, autosaving is considered a console gaming handicap.

Still sticking with my don't-play-it-at-all guns though. But uh, for the record, where are you story-wise, GMUN? You sound like you're having trouble on either Feros or Therum.

Look, if you have absolutely zero care for the universe whatsoever then I insist, truly you shouldn't waste your time on games that aren't doin' it for you.

But there's also the matter that ME1's plot really kicks into overdrive and gets genuinely good from Virmire on through to the rest of the game, presuming you save Virmire for until you're done with Therum, Feros and Noveria. (Virmire pops up as an option after one of either Feros or Noveria.)

So if there's even a plot thread or two dangling or a single character you find fun and engaging, keep going. The ride from Virmire to the endgame is some of the best storytelling out there IMO.

Yeah, ME2 is pretty rad. And don't listen to the people who say it doesn't have a story. It's setup for ME3 -- there's no beating around the bush on that level -- but it takes every mentioned plot point from ME1 and actually does something with it. All the little things, coming together to flesh out the universe in such a more satisfying way.

It's a different kind of story -- the kind of story you often find in the middle of great trilogies -- but it's a story, dammit!

The Mako isn't so bad (well, okay it is, but it's tolerable) once you get used to the oddball controls. You kind of have to accept that it behaves like it both has no weight *and* that gravity is pounding down upon it like it weighs a thousand tons. In other words, try to always keep it on a straight line. It can somehow roll right over everything but the steepest of mountains, so there usually isn't much need to steer

Everyone in this topic is insane.

The Mako is the worst thing in video gaming ever. Once I knew you could zoom your cannon I never died in it anymore but ARGHHH THE CONTROLS. ARGHHH. "Oh hey I can get up this mountain just a bit okay I'm all the way at the bottom now" "If you could turn oh right YOU ARE THE WORST VEHICLE EVER YOU CAN'T FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF"
And that useless jump/boost w/e. IT'S USED FOR DODGING ROCKETS NOTHING ELSE BUT THAT'S NOT THE ENTIRE POINT OF IT.

I'm so glad I have my Paragon/neutral/Renegade file finished from ME1, so I never have to play through it AND IT'S AWFUL MAKO SIDEQUESTS AGAIN UGH THE MEMORIES.

Also ME2 is probably one of the best games ever made so yes suffer through this(it's still a good game but it has issues) and get to real fun.

Also warning: prepare for an awful inventory system
