I started it today. Never seen it before. First episode is pretty good I guess, but I wish the number of the super power population was lower. 80% is kind of ridiculous. Why would the special occupation of super hero even be needed if almost all people are capable of defending themselves? I would have made it like 20% of the world. It should be a minority.

Because a large portion of those people with powers have really fucking shitty powers that don't do anything

Not everyone wants to be a hero, it's literally a job, and not everyone has powers suitable for self defense

Because a lot of quirks aren't compatible with being a hero, also those heroes do it as a profession because they feel a calling for/to it.

most of the powers aren't that powerful, plus, to become a superhero in that world, you need a lot of training.

without the training, the powers can hurt the user as much as the target.

They don't all have superpowers

They all have superpower aka one unique trait. That could be like you never have to poop ever. That is it, that is your super power.

If your superpower is that you can easily walk upstairs backwards that's hardly a fitting quirk for a job as a hero.

Like the kid in the classroom who's quirk is that he has stretchy eyes.

He's not about to level a building or set someone on fire.

Not everyone has a power meant for self defense

Some people get Avengers level abilities
Some people get Naruto level abilities
Some people get DBZ level abilities

Then some people get 'i can clap/talk/eat/run 5% faster than everyone else' tier abilities

IIRC, most powers are mundane and not things that are readily applied to combat. One thing that I liked early on is how they mentioned that people like that can still be heroes if they find the right application for it (like the one chick who has a sonar power, so she works on a search and rescue vessel at sea). That sentiment becomes more and more of an afterthought after it becomes a straight battle shonen (as in, that is ALL that they do).

Every quirk has some sort of downside as well. So, for example, if you have a heat quirk, you could end up burning yourself if you use it too much. It's almost like the flash being forced to eat 10,000 calories a day just to live.

To give an example of an early shit quirk (like episode 1 or 2) Midoriya's mom has a quirk where she twirls her finger and it causes small objects to slowly float towards her. That is most certainly not useful for self-defense

I feel like this was explained very very early on. But I can't remember exactly.

I dunno, I think I'd be able to find a lot more daily use out of being able to grab things from across the room without standing up than I would by being able to sweat explosions or shoot lasers out of my belly button
