I didn't enjoy the first one much. The combat felt really stiff and not fun overall.

It's real cheap on humble bundle now but is it worth it?

yes
it's significantly better than its predecessor, and the rest of the bundle is pretty solid too

I loved it, but it's a tough game. Not for the faint of heart.

Nioh 2 is WAY better than Nioh 1, but it's still very much Nioh But More.

I put 1.5 playthroughs into Nioh 1 on release then came back for the DLC like a year ago and did one new full playthrough using exclusively one of the DLC weapon types and haven't touched it since. (59.6 play hours on steam atm.)

I went to the maximum NG+ in Nioh 2 and dumped tons of time into it just farming for nothing in particular just to have an excuse to play it more, and the only reason I'm not clearing out Abyss floors right now is because I wanted to get back to Wo Long. (336.5 play hours on steam atm.)

How far into Nioh 1 did you get?

-

Like, my biggest complaint about Nioh 2 is that they didn't bring every stage and enemy back from the first one so I can't just play Nioh 2 and ignore 1's existence entirely.

It's like Nioh with most of the rough edges polished off. The combat is better, the levels are better, the bosses are better, it's less grindy (esp on later NG+ cycles) and you can create your own character this time. A lot of the levels and many of the bosses from the first game return in bonus missions too with updated mechanics.

That said, if you didn't like the combat from the first game, I doubt you'll like the second. However, of all the ways to describe Nioh combat I don't think stiff would be on the list. Nioh 2 has the best combat of any Souls-adjacent game imo, the only downside is you do actually need to get good with the weapons. There are dedicated action games with less expansive movesets than a single weapon type in Nioh 2 and Nioh 2 has 11 weapon types.

I loved the first Nioh and so Im glad to find out the second one is just more of it lol
They did a LOT of system changes to it and almost all of them are straight improvements, but yeah it's just more of the same but way better. Nioh 1 walked so Nioh 2 could run a marathon.

Playing Nioh 2 like you play Nioh 1 is a recipe for pain. But I'd never do that. I certainly wouldn't have accidentally done my entire NG run + DLCs in Nioh 2 playing it while ignoring all the new features I didn't understand like a moron and therefore make it way harder on myself. That'd be crazy.

It's a very punishing game, I'm not a fan of souls like games but I like Nioh 2. Of course I use all of the cheap methods to get through it like the ball chain weapon you whip around to stunlock enemies and elemental cards that make short work of bosses.

Oh man, a orange ninja just ran by me looking for some kid he lost or something, what weird timing.

It's fluid when you do things the game lets you do, but it's pretty stiff when you try to break from that. They both hammered into me "play the game it wants to be played, not the way you wish it did" before I was able to get over it. I think people with better fingers than mine can do a bunch of cancels to do what I was trying, but too much effort.

I give that title to Wo Long. It's a damn shame the game is as rough as it is, I hope they make a sequel or something that's as big a leap as Nioh 2 was to Nioh 1.

I did not like Nioh 1 AT ALL. Seems the sequel is better.

I'd say the biggest problem with it is that it takes multiple playthroughs to really get your character and build going. People who only play through once and beat the story are really not getting the full experience.

It's great otherwise though if you like this type of game, but it is very difficult as mentioned, not for the faint of heart lol.
