I'm worried with how uneventful new releases have become. Something about a game automatically downloading in the wee hours of the morning strikes me as just mundane. But then again kids could grow up feeling like new downloads are like little Christmas mornings, so I can't claim that it's all bad.

I had just about the same in-store experience with RDR1 in May 2010. Then went home and played it with my brother but it's different when it's a single player game. The "no responsibilities" bro hangout vibes are strong in that video and that's what I miss the most.

I remember the day I bought ODST. I almost got into a car wreck on the way to pick it up from Gamestop.

Hard to believe everyone in that video is dead, time really does fly. Can't believe it's already been a full century since 2009.

kinda weird the complete 180 people have taken in the last 10-15 years in terms of how they act while at the store.
in my area, everyone is borderline standoffish, rude/pushy, and barely talks to anyone (or even make eye contact for that matter).
Back in 2010, it was the complete opposite. People were really warm towards strangers at the store, would say "excuse me" rather than shove past people, you could walk up to someone and start talking to them and have a conversation.
Even at my job, people barely talk to each other and would rather stare at their phones than have to talk. I've seen people, mid conversation, pull their phone out and then completely ignore the other person.
smart phones were a mistake imo, and people have tricked themselves into believing its necessary to own one.
anyway, thanks for coming to my ted talk, I didn't mean to usurp the topic with my boomer rant.

Smartphones aren't a mistake. Smartphones being easily accessible to everyone is a mistake.

Early-mid 00's was a better time to go to midnight launches.

For GTASA EBgames hosted a cookout in Dallas. Nowadays I'd rather get a copy in the mail than risk getting shot.

2009-2014 was a such a good time for me. Just a really solid string of Ws happened at that time during my life. Not saying things went downhill, just that things sort of got normalized since then. Still have had good things happen, but the highs of those years were a lot more constant. Look back at those times fondly.

That video was extremely cringe.

Dude squealing like a pig and skipping out of the store was painful to watch.

I do kinda miss the hype surrounding game launches. I couldn't tell you the last time I knew when a big game was released.
It just kinda shows up and then I'll see topics about it here.

If FF7 Rebirth was launching in that climate the hype would be visibly through the roof
