This is a local crime for me. But I actually just found out about it. Somehow I didn't hear about this when it happened back in 2019. But apparently the trial is happening soon. A prostitute was alone in a car while her client was using an ATM.

She grabbed a memory card and later checked it. It had photos and video of a murder that happened inside a hotel. He killed 2 Alaskan Native women . Which is typical, sadly. Serial killers think natives, not just in Alaska, but all over the US and Canada, are easy prey that nobody will go looking for.

They're not exactly wrong.

Missing & Murdered Indigenous Woman (MMIW) is a huge issue and almost never gets reported on, even in the reservation border towns where it actually happens.

With no prompting, he tells the troopers in the bathroom, Im going to make you famous, District Attorney Brittany Dunlop said during a court hearing last week. He comes back in and says ... You guys got some more time? You want to keep talking? And then discloses this other murder.

Now that hes caught he wants full credit.

Its long been known many killers target prostitute, homeless, minorities, and especially indigenous people in certain states. Its a big issue and yet its been proven time and time again these people often dont receive the proper attention from authorities investigating.

I don't think so. If a cop stole the card, it might be an issue. But a civilian doing it, I think is fine.

The person who stole the memory card needs to have been an agent of the police. However, the defense lawyer CAN state to the jury in their closing argument, "Can we trust any evidence submitted by a prostitute with a long history of theft and assault?" It's then up to the jury to decide whether they trust the evidence.

It's pretty sad.

There's a group called Project Censored and every year they compile a list of what they decided to be the top 25 censored or underreported news stories of the year.

The #1 story they chose for the 2021 edition was about missing and murdered indigenous women and girls and how little attention it gets from media and authorities.
