Unless I retire with 25 years in (so I can get 50%) and at least 80% disability from the Army and VA, I won't be able to afford to live anywhere but where I grew up, and that'd be because rent is free.

And by the time the next 15 years is past, who fucking knows how expensive it'll be to live

Damn, that's really bad. I've been bitching about the state nerfing our pension by about 20%, but I guess I should count myself lucky. I'll still be able to retire before 70.

Yeah about 20 years ago my coworker said he'd put in his 20 years, retire from the military then work again towards another retirement. He said his retirement aint enough for he and his wife. Said the dollar is being valued less and less every day.

Ahh it was so fun being e2. Felt nearly untouchable, dont goto roll call drunk, dont be late, do as your ordered cause the e5s and above do look out for ya ...or so it seemed.

Anyways there were folks that felt retiring wasnt enough or my generation wouldnt retire until later. Seems they were on to something... i got about over 20 years to go now. Wonder if retiring is gonna be there for me by that time lol

This is why I believe assisted suicide will eventually be legalized and encouraged by the government. It's cheap and profitable.

I will retire hopefully at 61. But I'll likely need a part time job to supplement my retirement check.

It's 30 years for full retirement where I work. If I started at 21 I'd be retired at 51.

Fucked up part is I did apply for this job when I was 21 but chickened out.

I don't regret it. I wouldn't have stuck with it back then. I was a completely different person. Shy timid no back bone etc. Job woulda chewed me up and spat me out.

Now here I am. Within a month and a half I've been assaulted and threatened to be assaulted and I still walk out that gate at the end of a day smiling and laughing. Hell last night had to work around the dude who threatened to assualt me and it was no problem for me.

Retire with 25 years at 50, draw pension, come back and work part time until drawing Medicare and social security. Retirement on easy mode.

Reminder that a big reason for this being the case is that previous generations expect our generation to fund their retirement for them.

That's how it works for every generation though--who do you think will be funding your retirement?

I doubt the current pyramid scheme approach won't have collapsed by then.

Even after the change, France still has one of the lowest retirement ages in the world. The funding for it doesn't just magically appear out of nowhere; it's taken from younger people who actually work for their income, who are likely struggling far more financially than the people who want to retire are.

If it was just for those who need it and aren't able to work, sure, I'd be okay with that, but universal pensions are just yet another way for boomers to take everything for themselves.

(EDIT: For clarity, "pension" where I live refers to a near-unconditional payment anyone over 65 can receive from the government. The only other qualifier besides age is how long you've lived in the country; and whether you have a partner can affect the amount. I believe in some places it refers to more like a savings or investment account you can't touch until you reach a certian age; I have nothing against that kind of thing.)

A generation I didnt financially fuck over. This isnt a pattern - the boomers sabotaging things for their successors was a one off.

Not that Im going to live long enough to be eligible for retirement pension/superannuation anyway.

Are you sure about that? Maybe not as bad as the boomers but unless you're Gen Z or younger, you've had your negative impact, even if unintentionally, especially if you own a home.

That's why nothing changes in America. We don't have what it takes to fight for much. There may be a protest here and there that fizzles into nothing, but generally we're too unorganized and lazy to stand up for ourselves.

Not to mention that with the way US police behave any serious protest will likely be met with disproportionate force.

Its at the point where if someone asks me if I could be a cop, I would cite conscientious objection. Doubly so for riot cops.
