I assume it means overall #1 that happens to be rock. And while rock is kinda dead, honestly I bet a lot of the #1s from rock's heyday were pretty crap anyway, that's just how it goes.

What's funny about that 2020s list though is how many artists on there peaked 40 years ago or more lol. Rock has a lot of clinging on to the past to stay relevant, but that's also the reason it's losing relevance. Even most of the "new" bands on there are like 20 years old at this point

because the actual new new artists are not good.

if you remember screamo in the early 00's, stuff like brokencyde? that shit is better than the stuff new people are putting out today, and screamo was always garbage

Yeah rock isnt really super mainstream anymore. Pop music is easier to produce and has wider appeal. Theres still a rock scene in music, its just not as mainstream as it used to be.

do top music lists even matter? i couldn't tell you what's number one or what any of the recent number one songs have been.
like, when was the last time there was even a song that was popular enough that pretty much anyone you'd ask has heard it? I don't even know anybody in real life who listens to the supposed popular artists, besides the obvious ones like taylor swift.
