The asteroid completely changed the evolutionary course of life on earth when it killed the dinosaurs. Likely, we would not have existed if it never hit our planet

I often wonder what evolutionary history would look like in a world where the asteroid missed. Do you think the dinosaurs could have evolved into people?

Dinosaurs didn't die, they evolved to gain air supremacy.

Too embarrassed with what they had become, they chose to evolve back.
Just like the whales.

There's no reason to think so. Human-level intelligence is a fluke that turned into a gamebreaker in the biological game of Eat n' Fuck.

they say the tyrannosaurus rex could have been as intelligent as a primate, so who knows

our bodies, like our hands, thumbs, and how can adapt to our environments likely gave us an advantage, though.

like, we can observe a problem, and if our bodies can't answer it, then we can attempt to create tools to do so for us. and stuff like that benefited our development.

for something like a t-rex, it might have been lacking in some of those areas.

No.

Intelligence is not the end goal of evolution. That would be adaptation to the environment.

Dinosaurs were just as intelligent as they needed to be in order to be the dominant life-form for hundreds of millions of years.

Who is to say we wouldn't still exist?

Humans did apparently exist back then, we just hadn't figured out how to write and build stuff yet.

Humans may have ultimately figured out how to survive all of the mass extinction events, overcoming where other species hadn't.

Humans are older than most people think. We don't get wiped out easily. Nature has sculpted us.

Nature could probably do the job with a couple more preventable diseases.
The rest would die due to a lack of social interaction.

iirc, our ancestors around that time were basically small rodents, and dinosaurs dying off meant they were able more freedom and access to resources since a lot of their major predators weren't around anymore

here's the thing just evolving intelligence might not be enough, other animals have intelligence that might be comparable to ours but yet they aren't building things like we are because we are also lucky to have a body that allows us to use that intelligence to the max
