Other than kids bullying those who dont use iPhones, weve also heard of people being excluded from group chats because green bubbles ruin the experience for everyone. And theres even reports of women feeling turned off once they find out the new date doesnt have an iPhone.

I like Android because it's more customizable and no one I know cares at all. I do not give a shit what phone you use and I think caring about what phones other people use is stupid. If some woman broke up with me because she refuses to date anyone on android, as far as I'm concerned I dodged a bullet.

If somebody cares that much about green bubbles then I don't see the big loss not associating with them. They probably have some legit mental problems if it's that much of a dealbreaker

What age group is actually doing this?

I get given a phone by work, and I've had both iPhone and Android over the years. People I know have a mixture of both.

Never come across any of this 'bullying'. Is it something 12 year olds are doing? Or is it one of those things where a dozen people on social media say they do a thing, and everyone assumes it's somehow universal, while the actual world continues as normal?

I always thought it was a myth until I heard Zach Braff talk trash on the Fake Doctors/Real Friends podcast. This wealthy actor in his 40s was teasing one of the podcast's producers for having green text in their group chats. It didn't sound malicious or anything, but either he did it enough for her to buy an iPhone a bit later or he just straight up bought one for her.

Part of me refuses to believe that people genuinely give that much of a shit about what fucking color a bubble is in their text messages.

And yet, the other part of me finds it 100% believable that people would actually make a big deal out of something so stupid.

IIRC it's not really about the color, but the lack of certain functions when an Android user is added to an iPhone conversation or something along those lines

Oh, come on. Being a kid is entirely about tiny, stupid things that put you on the inside or outside of a clique.

Anyone over 14 doing that, though... that becomes significantly less understandable. You should be past at least some of that by the time you can drive.

This. When you add an Android user to an iMessage chat, you lose features like seeing when somebody is replying/seeing when a message is read, high quality images/videos, etc. The same also happens on Android when adding an iPhone user.

It's because iPhone uses SMS/MMS while Android uses RCS.

RCS will likely end up being better, but right now it's buggy, costly, relies on data availability, and not many people in the world have access to it, which is why iPhone still uses SMS/MMS. RCS is Google, though, so of course Google rushed to use it on everything.

Partly feature, but partly because of the awful, pale green that ios uses with white text that's much harder to read.

It's deliberate.

I can honestly say that, while I would never call myself a genius, I wouldve never been as stupid and petty back then to actually care about what kind of phone someone used, regardless of features between devices.

On my S23 Ultra all texts I receive are of the same color regardless of the platform used. So this whole green bubble thing is an Apple problem that they themselves created.

Hard for me to care from that standpoint.

Well, technically Google created it by fixing SMS when it wasnt broken, and creating RCS. Apple has the different colored bubbles, but that has always been a thing, to indicate something was different about that text/device so that they didnt think a feature was broken or something. It just became a big problem more recently due to the SMS/RCS incompatibilities hurting features.

Apple is aiming to fix it, atleast somewhat, by making it so features will still work amongst all iPhone users in the chat, they just wont apply to the Android user. It wont truly be fixed until either Apple adopts RCS, or Android goes back to SMS. Adopting RCS is probably still a ways off, though, to the unreliability and the cost.

RCS mainly makes it so text messaging can be expanded to have more app-like features, which, honestly, sounds like theyre just seeking a new way to monetize texts by selling these features, or just raising rates in general.

Back before kids had devices, it was the right kind of shoes (pumps, Jordans, pick your era of shoes) or jackets or other clothes (Starter and Bugle Boy comes to mind from ancient times).

There's always going to be something.

I'm not saying you personally were petty or aware of it. There were people around you who were very aware and very petty about those things. (Kind of surprised you don't have a story about being targeted for not caring. The kids who said that got singled out and called the poorest, trying to pretend they didn't care because they couldn't afford to. I watched some real malicious bastards growing up.)

RCS sucks. I use Android, have multiple friends who also use Androids and our texts haven't been sending right for months.

The other people in my rec soccer league tried several times to add me to the group text and the system straight up would not allow it.

I'm not going to buy a new phone over it or whatever, but it really feels weird, outdated. Like, Mac/Windows compatibility issues and petty identity fights are such a 1997-2007 thing.

How do they make tea?

EDIT: just looked it up. They have to use stove top kettles as the electricity supply is a much lower voltage.

Apparently their electricity supply voltage is too low for electric kettles. They take too long to boil.

Which makes me wonder about other appliances that use heat (irons, hairdryer, tumble dryers etc.).

Wait what about kettles. I'm american and I've been using a cheap pos kettle for hot water that I got for like $15 for years. Boils water in like 45 seconds. Pretty sure I got it from the Kohl's down the street but it wasn't a memorable or unusual purchase

Would put one in my office at work but I don't want to risk starting a fire if one lone paper boi gets too close to it
