If it was called Hurricane L, we could make jokes about Florida having to take the L. Oh well.

I wants to know Florida's name so it can spin right round, baby, right 'round, like a Record, baby...

Okay, enough of the jokes. Seriously, hope it keeps the damage down. Unless someone decides to make the Hurricane bow before them. Hurricanes, like any other wind, do not respect fools.

Yippee finally my first hurricane I can experience after moving down here. I've been through Sandy and Irene back in Jersey so let's find out why my apartment sent out emergency checklists.

Currently sitting in SW Florida hoping it doesn't pull a Charlie / Ian and turn at us. The 5pm update yesterday made me feel a lot better that it'll skirt by us, and so far that forecast hasn't changed much; everyone down here is rightfully paranoid of a last-second shift, but with Ian we knew 24 hours in advance that it was going to roughly hit our area, and the UK model had it right on the money up to 12 hours in advance. Plus our area was being battered by tropical storm-force weather almost 24 hrs. before Ian made landfall; Idalia's less than 12 hours away and it's just barely overcast out right now.

Still, I won't be able to relax until it passes us by.

The really annoying part is some predictions have it turning back towards the state after crossing into the Atlantic.

It's rare for a hurricane to take a crazy path like that, but it happens. I'll always remember Eta, aka the storm I had the displeasure of stressing about twice:

My grandmother is in Zone A for evacuation. Since her mom bought that house in the 60's, the worst they ever got was losing a few shingles off the roof. Still, I'm scared for this one. It's only her and my drunken father down there and she's barely mobile. I don't think they're leaving, either.

Storms like this always have me in knots too, even in Orlando where the effects of this one arent supposed to be too terrible.
