Some Twitch guy named "YourRage" signed a deal with Twitch rival Kick, and was paid 75 million dollars

I've never even heard of this guy. But apparently he's worth that much money. All to sit in front of a computer and play games and chat

Ironically, it never clicked with me until I actually watched streams on Twitch. I'm in my late 30s, but watching streamers the same age as me fanboying about the same stuff I like and interacting with them, I get it.

But...isn't playing the game funner than watching someone else play it? (assuming the stream isn't instructional)

For some people, this is the only form of social interaction they have in their lives.

The dopamine hit they get when they piss away what little money they have on superchats is indescribable. Just the thought of a streamer saying their name makes them explode with joy.

a lot of kids cant afford to buy every new game.

Its why so many kids flock to Fortnite, Apex, Roblox, etc etc.

Twitch lets them experience things they might not be able to.

Not really the 1st this has happened. 1st one to go to Iick was Adin Ross several months ago, and then there was XQC like last month. And I'm pretty sure TrainwrecksTV or whatever he is called is with them too since that's basically where all the gambling streamers are flocking to.

To me it is, Id rather play than watch. But I've noticed the younger generation finds enjoyment in watching streamers.

Remember growing up with my brother who's 8 years younger, watching me play video games. That was enough to keep him engaged and occupied. Now that we're both grown he watches streamers.

Personally I don't see the appeal of watching, but he wasn't harming me so I was like, ok.

The purpose of these isn't to bring in [overpaid streamer]'s audience, but to lure in the countless "content creators" with dreams of being the next [overpaid streamer] who end up being paid pennies (or not at all, after repeated 80s-teen-movie-villain screwjobs) solely to pad out the number of ad-slots that nerds will furiously block anyway.

It's just that guy at the carnival who's been paid to carry around the giant teddy bear all day.

It'll take law changes. Unlike Mixer, an abandoned speculation into streaming by MS, Kick is owned by a casino mogal and ran by streamers. There isn't any shortage of funds and these people are determined to stick it to Twitch.

For a brief time I tried to get into watching streaming. Even made a topic over in the gaming forum about which streamers I should watch. Though yeah I agree with most on here that I don't see the appeal all that much, unless I'm just looking to kill time by any means necessary and I don't have access to better time killing methods. Playing video games is a hell of a lot more fun than watching someone else play, which watching them just makes me want to stop after 5-10 minutes into them and play the game myself even more so.

Funny enough, I've only watch Twitch streams a handful of times over the past several months only whenever I'm in stream playing as well. Just so I can peek over at my teammate's stream and adjust my teamwork strategy. (Don't worry I'm only doing this on strictly co-op games. I'm not doing this on competitive multiplayer games where that would be considered cheating.)

ehh not really. the vast majority of people aren't in physical shape to play sports at the highest levels and playing sports is much more time and labor intensive than playing videogames.

that said, i can see why some streamers have large followings even if i personally don't care to watch other people play games. just like any other medium, the top streamers seem to be talented and charismatic.

Feels like it shows how defeated much of current society is, they don't even have the will to hope there dreams come true, or even try, so they just give away money to someone who's living there life, its utterly depressing.

Yes, idk what kinda shape you think you need to be in to play sports. Even disabled people play sports. I was at the batting cages the other day. There were older people, fat people, disabled people, etc.

Anyone can play physical sports just as easy as people can play video games. The only difference between picking up a controller and picking up a ball is effort.

and its not a time thing. I hit the batting cages after work and it took me 30 mins. Ive played video games and real sports my whole life. There's no difference in watching a streamer vs watching a sport.
