I have an ancestor that supposedly fought in the Revolutionary War. According to research done by one of my dad's cousins I think

On my mom's side, I don't know much on my grandpa, but I know my maternal grandma's parents moved from Germany in the late 1800s or early 1900s. So they were much much more recent

Mom's side supposedly like the third ship after the Mayflower.

Dad's side I always assumed was swamp cajuns via Nova Scotia but turns out they came from one French guy who moved straight to Louisiana in the 1700s.

Though, we hypothesize that one of my great great grandfathers was possibly an American though we don't know much beyond he had European ancestry.

I think the earliest were sometime around 1650, or maybe a bit more toward the end of the century, but I'm really not sure.

My mom's side of the family could be traced back to the oldest standing timber-frame house in the US:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairbanks_House_(Dedham,_Massachusetts)

Between that and a lot of Mormonism in the 1800s/early 1900s there's a lot of info about that side of the family. Not as knowledgeable about my dad's side.

Civil War is the furthest we've been able to trace it back. Sometime before that we immigrated from Germany but we think our name was "Americanized" so we can't go back any further.

We had family that sided with king George during what I'm assuming they called "the unpleasantness" and lived in Canada til my great-grand parents came to the U.S. Sometime before my G-ma was born in the 1930s then.

Someone with my last name is on the Declaration of Independence.

That said, I have no real idea, because my last name is also on the top ten list of most common Irish surnames, but I know my father's side pre-dates the Civil War.

My great-grandparents were born in Canada, and their parents were from France.

It really sucks that not even one of the four were born in Canada before they moved, too, because I believe I'd be able to get an easy Canadian citizenship if they were.

On my mom's side it has been said we cane over in the 1600s on the 2nd Mayflower ship. Though some point in time the family moved to Canada not moving back to America until the late 1800s

My mother's side of the family entered this country as indentured servants in the 1700s. I know virtually nothing about my father's side of the family except that my grandfather was abusive and his father was supposedly even more abusive. I know that they were in this country during the Great Depression. That's about it.

It's possible that my dad's side of the family is descended from a Catawba chief. That's what I've been told, anyway. Our last name is the same as this chief so perhaps. Or could be someone just noticed we share the name and started bullshitting. I really should look into it more.

I've loosely followed my dad's line back to the early 1700s, and until his dad they were primarily located in Tennessee. I believe my mom's grandparents were primarily European so they may have immigrated over sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s. I need to research her side more.
