I quit my job being a teacher at a gross charter school to work for a local nonprofit that helps kids having home/health issues.

Its a 33% paycut (63k => 42k) but on the plus side, this job has better and cheaper healthcare plans, it has a decent 401k match, I have a more flexible schedule, and I only work 195 days a year. Mostly Ill hopefully finally have a job where Ill be doing something for people instead of maximizing dollars. for corporate millionaires. Geez working a stuffy office job and then working for a school that prioritizes money over students were the most soul-sucking three years of my life.

Im really privileged in that my SO makes way more money than I do and we live in a fairly low cost area, so Im able to take such a big pay cut and not have too many issues. Really glad she supports me giving up tens of thousands of dollars to join an org that isnt exactly a springboard lol. 100% of my paycheck used to go into savings anyway, so now well just me saving a whole lot less which sucks. But what can you do.

oh yeah, and working for a nonprofit also means that my student loans might be forgiven in ten years. Thats a big plus.

Ive been working for the government the last two years. And while I dont particularly like my job, and took a pay cut, the amount of stress its cut out of my life has made a huge difference.

lmao yes like 2 months ago. Its only been summer school but this school is so stupid. Plus they told me during the interview that their teacher retention rate was only 30%, so I kind of expected it to suck and I think they expect a few people to leave.

I've done that too so that I could work closer to home, have most weekends off, not have to get up at 2am in the morning.
It also helped that I was specialist with no room to grow at my previous employer whereas I have plenty of options at my new one.
