I get it but i dont get it. I watch for free content and theyre not doing anything that warrants me giving them money. And i could do so much more if i wanted to spend money.

That being said they make a ton of money.

You know how everyone says that instead of shopping at Walmart you should shop at Mom and Pop stores, even if they cost a little bit more?

You're confused about people shopping at Mom and Pop entertainment and wondering why they don't just spend their money on studio products.

streamers never encourage anyone to give them money if they can't afford it. Even Pokimaine limits her donations to $5. People that give money to streamers are people that already make more than 27$ an hour.

Ye see, when ye be watchin' a streamer, ye be entertainin' yerself with their content. It be like sittin' down at the tavern and listenin' to a bard spin a tale. Now, if ye be enjoyin' that tale, ye might want to show yer appreciation by tossin' a coin into the bard's hat. Same goes for streamers - if ye be enjoyin' their content and want to support them, ye can give 'em a bit o' booty as a sign of appreciation. And though ye could do other things with yer hard-earned treasure, like buyin' a new hat or a barrel of rum, givin' a bit to a streamer ye enjoy can make ye feel good inside, like ye be helpin' to keep the wind in their sails. Aye, they may make a ton of treasure, but it be a hard life, sailin' the digital seas and entertainin' the masses. So if ye be so inclined, me hearty, don't be shy to show yer support for the ones ye enjoy watchin'. Arrr!

For something like Patreon, they at least get a service, but the people who donate on stream just get a dopamine rush from hearing their name.

donators get to have more content from a streamer they like. You give money to encourage them to keep streaming.

My original stance is as solid as ever. Theyre entertaining for free but any amount of money seems too much and i wouldnt watch them at all if i were to pay for this.

You are right , and when it comes to ladies it is even easier . If I was cute chick, I would stream. Talk about the same bullshit that I talk about here. My turtles, anime, and such. I would have a big stuff turtle on my bed like Hunter Biden. And that would be my brand, and chick you speaks about reptiles, that would be my bread and butter. And here is the cool part. you don't have to do anything nasty. Lonely guys would give you money for just acting like you noticed them.

Why does it matter? Let people enjoy how they want to enjoy. Nobody is getting hurt.

On some level, if you give money to streamers whose content you enjoy, you make streaming worthwhile for them to do. Hence, giving money = get more streams from them.

What I don't get is just...dumping hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of dollars into somebody.

I call bullshit on that, 99% of these streamers would still be playing the same games and doing the same thing if they didn't have an audience. Let's be real, they're not gonna stop gaming if people stop donating.

There's a streamer I used to pay $5 a month because I spent a lot of time watching his content. Guy was right on the cusp in terms of subscriber count that he was able to do it full time if he kept a certain subscriber count but wasn't raking in tons of excess money.

I never really used any of the special perks that came from being a subscriber and I wasn't like "Poggers my monthly subscription went through and he read my name". It just seems like since it was easily within my means to support them and a combination of a number of people like me allowed for their content to be better (by not having it split between a second job), why not do it? Sure, if they couldn't afford to do it anymore and stopped streaming there are many other streams I could have gone to instead but it makes sense to reward the ones that I *do* watch all the time.

Obviously there are unhealthy, parasocial financial things that go on with some people and that's not always great, but it's not as if there isn't also unhealthy spending related to "regular" celebrities as well.

I feel like a ton of streaming is empty time or wasted time.

Compilations or best clips make more sense to me. And even then, paying for it seems excessive. Especially to the hundred or more a month.
