wanna play this game but I have a base PS4 only and no interest in buying a PS5.

I got it for my friend and he loved it. Said it ran good

I mean, if your options are not playing it at all or playing it on a PS4, I say go for it. I haven't heard any horror stories so I'm sure it's fine.

Allegedly performance is quite good for what it is. They made huge under the hood advancements in texture compression and optimizing their existing engine from 2018.

The tl;dr:
Base PS4 has a mostly stable 30FPS with a few rare dips. Pro has two modes. Resolution mode is rock solid 30FPS throughout. Performance mode is a little shakier; it tends to average between 40-55FPS and goes up and down a lot. They say the lowest they saw was 35FPS, highest was 60FPS if you're staring at the empty sky.

Ragnarok is very much a PS4 game that had some upscaling and extras thrown in for the PS5. You can tell this in the gameplay because it still has a lot of "we're going to climb this wall to hide a loading screen" bits that you wouldn't need in a PS5.

It runs exactly the same as GoW 2018 does. Which is very stable and well. I am about 25 - 30 hours in before my PS4 fan died but I'm hoping to replace it tomorrow.
