The worst is that every time you do it, it gets more swollen and more at risk of being chomped again, in which case it will hurt even more. It's a vicious cycle.

Swishing with salt water can help.

Yeah, this. Salt water can help with most things oral I find. I used to bite the inside of my mouth a lot and ended up with a very small bump on the inside of my mouth. I had that cut out so that was fun. On the plus side I very rarely bite the inside of my mouth anymore.

Ouch, it never hurts that much at first. After a few days when its partially healed the wound gets very tender and makes life painful

I had one of these that never healed after I bit it 10 times or whatever and stayed in the side of my mouth for 6 months. My dentist noticed it and made me get it checked out to see if it was cancerous. A doc shot it up with novocain and cut it off in what must have been the lamest surgery ever. It wasn't cancerous.
