I was hired for a summer job washing dishes at a restaurant and just didn't show up the first day because I got a more desirable job later that day. Not really proud of it.

sort-of

when i quit a job to go to school, the company was PISSED. They thought i was lying and actually went to a competitor. They were stalking me on LinkedIN, so i blocked the owner and manager. That shit was creepy as fuck, and downright insane. Like, checking my profile every day to see if i changed to a new employer. With the overall goal to sue me for breach of contract (which would not hold up anyways due to precedent set in "restriction of trade" for broad-brush non-compete clauses). i think they just wanted to fuck with me and send a lawyer letter as revenge for leaving them so abruptly.

wish they cared about me that much when i worked there lol.

i still talk to a few ppl from there though, work buddies and such. go golfing once a year or so with one dude, and actually go to school with a girl who i worked with there.

I mean, I told my shift supervisor because they were legit nice and needed to know not to roster me on. The store manager was a bully and a passive aggressive asshole so he could go get stuffed.

I did when I was 18. I stocked groceries on 3rd shift. We weren't treated very well and I was going to college in 3 weeks so I just stopped going in.

I've walked out mid-shift a couple of times. But never ghosted. I always made it pretty clear that I was done, even if the management was shitty.

Kind of.

Was working at a warehouse through a temp agency, 58 hours a week. Was informed that this would be changing, to 10 hours on saturday instead of 8 now, and also every other sunday. So at lunch, got in my car and left. Told the temp agency something came up and I would be out of the area for the next month or so (a total lie), but said nothing to the guy in charge of the warehouse.

it was a 3rd party subcontractor that took over my department and cut everyones hours by 30%. A few of us had already worked for them before(they were brought in like 6 years earlier but had their contract canceled after 2 years) and no, they were all greedy shits that only cared about money.

so I found a new job after they dropped me from 40hrs/wk down to 30 and just stopped showing up. They didnt even bother calling me to see where I was but I got a termination letter in the mail like a month later

looking back I wish I had signed the write up and sent it back telling them to fuck off, but alas

I have more respect for my companies than I should. That said, my last job nearly my entire department mass quit all on the same day because we were tired of taking abuse from our assistant manager after reporting her to HR multiple times and nothing was done about it.

I went there to pick something up and she was still working there 2 years later. How times haven't changed.

I used to work security about 15 years ago and I would constantly leave my site to hang out with friends. I was an asshole kid, but to be fair, I was also extremely overworked. They had me working 14-16 hour days in like... 12-14 day stints without a break and I wasn't allowed to leave the site. If I tried to refuse a shift they would make up some bullshit to make me feel bad like "we don't have anyone else, your the only person we can rely on". I mean there wasn't even a fucking bathroom at these sites. So if during my shift I had to really go, I wasn't allowed to. Human rights violations left and right. My manager eventually was caught by the owner of the company and outright fired and changes were made but it was a brutal 2 years.

yep, and the district manager passive aggressively texted me for like a month like he was my ex girlfriend or something. "i just think it's funny how...." "i just don't understand how you could do this to me..." "i thought we worked so well together..."

mf you worked me literally into the hospital on 80 hour work weeks because you refused to give me hiring privileges even though i was the gm and you ran off all the staff

Once. Pizza delivery. Management changed and it became the worst thing ever overnight. Just got a new job and stopped coming in. My old Jeep was also falling apart so it was time to move on anyway.

Only 1. Generally I have been very selective with my work. The exception was summer of... 2002 I think? School got out May, I had been looking for work all of April but could only get on at a temp agency working at a target distribution center. They promised 30 hours a week up to 55, based on performance. I had I believe the 3rd highest numbers in the DC but one week that just cut my hours to 10, wouldn't explain.

So I got a job at a rental yard and stopped showing up. They called every few months for maybe a year after that still seeing if I was interested each time i would tell them to remove my name and number and never contact me again.

Yes
You owe your employer absolutely nothing. If you work, then you're compensated for that work at the end of the pay period. At the end, we're square. That's it.

I've ghosted a few employers who treated me badly. Once, I ghosted one in the middle of a shift, when they told me shittily to go get something from the stock room, I walked out back as if to go there, but left through the fire exit instead and never answered their calls.

I did it once at a call center. After three weeks of working there, I got an ear infection and missed about a week, but I got a doctor's note for it. I went in and gave them the note, and waited for them to make their decision. It was when they came back and told me I still had a job that I realized I had been hoping they would say no, so when they walked away I clocked out and left without saying anything.

Me too, with a call centre and it was also after 3 weeks. We were reading some super manipulating script trying to get people to donate to charity, but I think only 40% of the money went to the charity, the rest stayed within the company. We only ever got really old people willing to donate, the whole thing was damaging my soul lol

I got sent home early one day because the manager listened into my calls and thought I was nowhere near pushy enough. I'd literally break character and be like yeah fair enough this is pretty fucked when people on the phone told me this whole industry is a scam and I should get a new job lol

The manager made it seem like I just was having a bad day and could come back fresh tommorow lol. He was nice about it so I didn't quit there and then. I came back a few more times but one day decided life's too short and walked out during my lunch break and avoided all calls from them

I have a couple times with real shitty jobs. Unsurprisingly, the voicemails those places left ever had a hint of concern for my well being. Only threats of termination. Can't imagine why I'd just leave in that way.
