Gonna test out Wild ARMs since it is one of the games they added trophies to. I think only First Party Sony games got trophies added to them

Yes, that's because the games are streamed and not actual downloads, same as they were on PS Now

but if I purchased a digital license for a game in the past, why not let me stream just that one game without an extra charge? Maybe if I played that and thought you did a good job with that one, I'd be more willing to shell out for a subscription to stream other PS3 games that I haven't played yet...

it's just an empty getsure. really, they only said "oh you can download ps1/ps2 games if you already bought a license for them" was because they knew that very few people would probably be able to. I mean Intelligent Qube wasn't available digitally in the west before, and I don't think there's much overlap between the PS2 classics available on the PS3 and PS4.

(and while I'm complaining, I would like to see more of the PS2 classics that were available on the PS3 like Godhand, Suikoden 3, Atlus games, etc. to be released on the PS4 as well and this probably increases the chances a bit. And since my PS3 is probably dying I would probably upgrade for a short time just to knock out a couple of the PS3 games I didn't get around to finishing if they don't jerk you around and let you downgrade afterwards without any trouble, and you can use your PS3 saves if you uploded them to the cloud)

I wasn't going to upgrade, but the prorated cost seems so trivial that I'm tempted to get the streaming version.

I was playing some games on Now like GoW Chains and Blazblue, only to see them and about 200 games in total that were on Now have just straight up been removed.

You can say that, but the PSN Store marketed it constantly. Every PS Now game was labeled as "included" regardless of what subscription type you were on.

Well, if I'm understanding it correctly, they're games that just straight up aren't going to be available on the new Plus. And unless I'm wrong, there aren't an equal number of games replacing them. So it's actually less games for more money.

Like, hey, it's nice to have Tekken 2, but Tekken 7 and Tag Tournament 2 are gone, now. Not sure I like that trade.

like I just played Tokyo Jungle and that was fine, but the input lag for a streamed fighting game would be infuriating

This entire rollout has been a joke. There's nothing worthwhile added to the double priced PSN category.

There's a rather large number of games available. Just not in the PS1,2,P category.

I'm holding off on upgrading until I see if they continue to add trophy support to just first party playstation games or if it'll eventually extend to all of them as they add more games

Having PS+ defaults you to the Essential Tier which is the same thing as PS+ was before

upgrading to Extra is essentially their Game Pass which gets you access to a library of PS4 and PS5 games to download

upgrading to Premium gets you access to PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP games they've uploaded to the service as well as Game Trials. This feature is still bare bones at launch, but will get new games added every month. PS3 games are streaming only just like they were on PS Now, although according to Jeff Grubb, Sony is looking into an emulation solution for PS3 games down the line.

I didn't hold off on upgrading because the value proposition isn't changing until my previous subscription runs out. Wish it was a bit longer remaining, but I finally got to try the streaming service and have a bunch of games I can play until November. I downloaded Ys VIII since someone mentioned IX.

Is there any value to upgrading from the base tier? Their initial list of old games was incredibly lacking, to the point it was laughable. Still seems like Xbox has the best value in their subscription service, though at least the new PSN is still leagues better than Switch online

Because it generates more excitement adding games every month than having a huge selection at the start. People see it as a better value if you get 10 games added every month for a year rather than just getting those 120 games at the start.
