Coming to PC! Sony really isn't playing around.

I'm surprised it seems to be a remake of the first game and not a re-imagining because the rumors prior made it sound like it would be more in line with the upcoming HBO series.

My original reaction to the remake buzz was that it seemed insane to make a remake of such a recent game but then I realized more time has passed since TLoU1 than between RE1 and REmake. That's wasn't a fun realization.

Also it's two hardware cycles later instead of one

REmake came out a pretty short time after RE1, though. It being longer than that doesn't mean much.

Is this really a remake? It seems more like a moderately improved visuals-style thing in the realm of Nier Replicant or Xenoblade Definitive.

Its definitely been talked about as a remake in all the behind the scenes buzz, but yeah I guess I need to see how much the design of the game is actually being changed. TLoU1 with 2's gameplay and design would be extraordinary but I'm not yet convinced that's what this actually is.

I didn't expect a whole remake. Seems a bit early for that, but yea sure I'm down.

Such a great game.

Still haven't played the PS4 version of tLoU that I've had for a few years...

Maybe I'm just old but it doesn't seem like the gulf between ps3 and ps5 is that big

Speaking of the HBO show, they've been filming that near where I work over the last few days. It's been neat watching them cart derelict vehicles over, and a nearby parking lot has been made to look all overgrown. I'm excited to see how that show turns out

It's not necessarily the time between remakes that it's about, it's just weird to remake a game like this that doesn't need it.

Considering you can still play the Remastered version on PS5, yeah, this just feels redundant.

The PS3 is like a decade old now.

16 years old, and 14 years older than the PS5.

But yes, technology wise consoles are much closer together than they used to be. There's a bigger gap between the PS1 and PS2 than between the PS3 and PS5.

it's not just being old! it doesn't feel the same because the style of progression is different

we won't ever again have the same dramatic graphical progression we got from living through the SNES (mostly 2d) -> PS/N64 (chunky 3d) -> PS2/GC/Xbox (3d with spheres) eras

there have been a bunch of technological advancements since then, but they're more about load times/SSD, putting more "stuff" on the screen at once/parallelism, doing more physics, and so on. i think the next big one is supposed to be CPUs that interact more directly with GPUs, not exactly sure how that works or what it accomplishes

Honestly even if this remake isn't necessary, that's fine. It's not being made for the people who already played it - it's made for the newer crowd who might have missed out on the first release (or the second release, lol). And more game preservation is always a good thing.

PS3 is also like 7 years older than TLoU and it got released on PS4 too, so PS3 being 16 years old feels misleading.

Not that I mind this release.

Yeah, I imagine more people will re-buy this game than will buy it for the first time.

A TLoU1 remake makes a lot of sense to me with an HBO series imminent and the game being so beloved so existing fans will rebuy it. And it's technically the second PS3 game Sony's remade for PS5, so the precedent's there.

I really liked this game when I played it originally, but for some reason I have absolutely no interest in playing it again.

Man $70 for this feels... Not great.
