Half the 30+ population doesn't get Tiktok and Instagram and whatever the new shit is.

Not really, a lot of young people don't use computers like millennials did. So while they can Tick Tok and all this stuff. A large number of younger people computer still is not as good as that of a Millnnials .

Interesting. I assume it's because they spend most of their "computer" time on smartphones?

You don't need that those to do anything though. Only relevance is if your job is social media.

I have (college!) students who have no idea how to use a computer because smartphones have streamlined computer usage so much.

Maybe the new thing will be tablet like functions. Windows is already trying to make the OS the same as tablets.

Like I'll admit I don't know all the gestures.

? Of course they do lol. They just dont care. Zoomers are as tech illiterate as boomers. Millennials and late gen X is the sweet spot for tech literacy.

Actually I do keep hearing this.

That teenagers and young guys in their 20s don't know how to save-find files, use excel , write emails etc because they grew up on cell phone apps and The Cloud.

That's bonkers. Do they not teach computer classes anymore in schools? Don't kids still have to type up school reports? Is that all really done on tablets/smartphones now?

Ehhh, social media is increasingly being folded into the responsibilities of positions that existed before it. My secretary for example spends most of her downtime answering questions/comments on IG/FB, and scheduling promoted posts for IG/FB. Small business owners can't neglect it or they'll be dead in the water, and you can't really afford to hire a position specifically for social media unless you're a fairly large outfit.

Most zoomers dont know what a file or a folder is. They use chrome books that auto save and google docs. They never learn about how to actually use a computer

I dont know if this is true or not, but I believe it 100% just based on the fact that my mom bought herself a laptop after having not used a PC in over ten years due to being retired, and had to completely re-learn how it worked because she was so used to using her phone/tablet.

As for the topic title question: I already dont really understand things like Discord so yeah, probably.

The vast majority of people are absolutely tech illiterate if you strip away the easy to use interface people who actually know how to use computing have created for them, regardless of age

No I don't think so as an entire generation. They won't be as aware or understand certain trends or software that target their kids and after... But if we are talking about technology in general, no milennials will be up to date unlike a higher population of boomers who haven't touched computers at all. Remember, milennials grew up in the digital age. They weren't born under it like zoomers, but they were in that transition phase as kids.
