Technicality, yeah, but I much prefer Portnoys feel and the grooves he comes up with (plus the dude is still a technical monster).

Mangini seems like an awesome guy and his stuff is just impossible but he sounds like a drum machine a lot too.

Yes! Alan Myers was incredible, so precise. Why DEVO decided to go away from real drums in favor of programmed drums Ill never understand.

Man, youre not kidding. I dont think its just the drumming either (but that didnt help) its the songwriting and terrible production quality that took a nosedive. To be honest I dont think Ive listened to any post Oh No albums more than once all the way through up until Something for Everybody which has some real bangers on it.

Oh No is also my favorite of theirs, followed by Duty Now, Freedom of Choice, Are We Not Men, then New Traditionalists. Honestly though I only really count their first five albums even though thats not really fair. Its a shame they basically dumped most of Oh No for every tour after 1983- Aside from Thats Good and Peek A Boo So many great songs just forgotten about. Theyve turned into kind of a Greatest Hits band now.

EDIT: Credit where credit is due- Happy Guy is a pretty awesome song.

I love Baby Doll and Stuck in a Loop but by in large they weren't great until Something. Something for everybody is amazing. I've seen them live twice in the last year and the only real deep cut they play is Going Under. Great song (Nutra is my favorite Devo record), but they have so much to draw from I wish they would. They are fantastic live though and still one of my all time faves

Grant Hart of Husker Du is really good, and he sings while drumming and played barefoot a lot.

My favorite dummer is Damon Che of Don Caballero. Very Technical, very weird, very innovative. He plays a style of drumming that is technical but loose at the same time, and on the record "American Don" he is playing vs real bass and guitar and looped effects, but it sounds so effortless.

Other good drummers I like: Steve Lamos(American Football), John Stanier(Battles, Helmet, Tomahawk), Brendan Canty(Rites of Sping, Fugazi), You also have to give a shoutout to William Goldsmith. Most known for his work in Sunny Day Real Estate, a 90s act that inspired tons of bands. Dave Grohl picked him out to be a member of the Foo Fighters, but he only ended up doing some of the drums on the first album before being canned.

Dave Lombardo is my favorite drummer. Someone I think tends to be pretty underrated is Bill Ward. He may not be the most technical, but he has a swing to his drumming that is pretty unique and you can usually tell when another drummer is playing Sabbath songs.
