Like it's a weird criticism, but they almost fleshed them out TOO much? They basically made some choices in the story that made them 100x more loveable, but also completely ruined all of the emotional impact of them from the original.

Because they needed to add an insane amount of filler to justify this being a stand-alone game.

Biggs looks like a younger Charlie Sheen. Dunno about Wedge.

I didnt mind what they did with those three nearly as much as the ghosty crap.

And they should be dead. But none of them probably are.

I am officially not in denial. I believe that change was the one thing they knew they wanted to do with the remake and all other changes grew out of it.

I agree but it is the TC afterall. I believe they gave these characters much more personality and the game was better for it.

I love that they got Badger to voice Wedge. I liked the game quite a bit, more than I expected to.

They did? I must have missed it. As near as I can tell, they spent a bunch of the story on them that resulted hours of excess fluff, but never actually got around to, y'know, giving them any actual characerization.

Like... you can literally sum up their entire character in a single sentence each:
Biggs: The "cool guy" who helps out at an orphanage in his spare time.
Wedge: The overweight kind-hearted cat lover who is the butt of everyone's jokes.
Jessie: The former actress <s>whose father was rendered comatose by Mako poisoning after working in a Shinra reactor</s> who desperately wants Cloud's buster sword in her Materia slot.

...aaaaand that's it. That's literally all there is to those characters.

And, I mean, it's fine if NPCs don't get a lot of development. In the original game this trio had even less characterization than that, but still managed to serve their role just fine and add a bit of emotional impact to Shinra dropping the plate and killing everyone in Sector 7. But the original game also didn't pretend that they were major characters. If you're going to have us run around with these people for hours, at least, y'know, make them interesting.

Yeah, oddly, this is my criticism of the remake with respect to these 3. They chose to expand on the characters and the either did things that didn't really do anything to meaningfully flesh them out, or did things I outright didn't like.
I don't know... they kept Wedge as a fat person who is a walking, talking fat joke and then boomeranged all over the place with whether or not he'd die at the end in a way I thought was really tacky, Biggs actually didn't have much added to him at all, and Jessie I actually liked less in the remake, because she went from just having a mild crush to being weirdly pushy in a way that made Cloud uncomfortable... like, was that supposed to be charming? Why would you do that?

Yeah, it's pretty weird that Jesse didn't cook meth a single time in the remake.

I was pretty charmed

The fact that I can recall a lot of people speculating as to if Jessie might have come back to life, if Wedge somehow survived to the end, and if the trio would reappear tells me a lot of people liked the changes they made. I think people liked Jessie's changes most of all as she went from being 'girl' to being a fleshed out character. Wedge got classified as the dogged nice guy who really just wants to help and make the world better but seems to constantly get no respect. Biggs probably gets the least fleshing out but even then it's way more than what he had before and we'll likely get more seeing as we KNOW he survived. On the whole the game did a great job of fleshing out... well... everyone a lot more. There were some huge annoyances (KYRIE) but seems like everyone is more fleshed out and generally well-received on the whole.

When it comes to the Avalanche trio, the only thing that bothered me about the Remake was how much Biggs looks like Charlie Sheen during the movie Platoon. Like really? This is the look we're going for? OK then.
