Plus you're never going to find the owner and if you hand it into the store hoping someone will come in and claim, the store associate will most likely end up keeping it

I recently found $20 on the floor at a movie theater. I could have tried to give it back to whoever lost it. But then someone else would likely pocket it. So I kept it.

I'd look around to see if anyone was obviously coming back to look for it, but if not, I'd keep it. That said, none of the self-serve checkouts around here take cash, so this isn't a situation I'll ever encounter.

I found 40 about 2 years ago, I told the worker there.

If I was in line and saw who left it, Id go to give it back. If I wasnt in line, and just found it, then Id probably keep it. I would look around to see if someone was searching for it. Or if someone came back for it, Id give it back. Or if it was one of those plants where social media people do that to see how nice people are, Id give it back, but mainly because I probably wouldnt know they were one

I found $5 on the ground outside and pocketed it, then a guy came up to me and asked if I found any money on the ground so I gave it to that guy.

In that case give it to the employee. Those always have cameras so they wouldn't keep it.

I've had this happen to me where $10 was on the ground next to a self-service til. I just picked it up and plopped it on the service desk as I walked out. The cashier probably would have kept it, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.
