Completing a marathon is an impressive physical achievement many people could never complete, so in a way any marathon time is pretty good. But at the same time if the person's time is extremely slow I feel like it becomes less impressive.

Disclaimer: I have never run a marathon. I get very bored running more than an hour or so, so they longest I have ever ran at once is like 9 miles.

A marathon at any speed is impressive. Go walk for 26.2 miles and see how you feel.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

I walked 3 miles to work and 3 miles back and could barely move the next day.

At that point, it's more just the personal achievement to do something that's extraordinarily hard for them, so certainly no reason to put someone down for it. Only time to laugh would be if a person talked themselves up as some great athlete but spectacularly failed.

I totally get what you are saying and sort of agree. I guess with fast times you are more impressed with the effort they put in while training than the actual finishing time.

i'd say anything under 5 hours seems respectable with anything near 3 hours being OMG you're amazing. if i found out someone did it over like 8 hours or so, it would take a lot away.

I did a Half Marathon last year at 2 hours 20 mins. Wouldn't call that extremely slow, but it is slow (It's jogging the whole way, basically). My body was a wreck afterwards, so it did feel good to achieve either way. I can't imagine running a marathon and would be impressed by anyone who did one

I've done around that and it's not that rough if you are in decent walking shape. Like someone who just walks a few miles a few miles a day to keep healthy.

Running one, (even jogging) is way different.

Nah, but I'm also not impressed by people who can run them quickly either. Good on ya for finding a hobby you enjoy though.

This. One of the most difficult parts of completing a marathon is getting the right balance of nutrients before and during it. If not then you risk your legs locking up and not finishing. Its hard.

I find walking 26.2 miles to be even more taxing on my feet.

I think I have done essentially this while doing tourist shit. Basically spend 12 hours walking around looking at various shit with minimal breaks for bathroom / eating.

It's actually very tiring regardless.
