Can we just stop comparing games that have nothing to do with each other?

Despite their similarities they're two different games trying to do different things

Everything has to be so black and white these days. Everyone so dead set on ranking the most subjective things in human history.

Both games have their own strengths but other than enemy and dungeon type variety there's really not much I want BOTW to take inspiration from Elden Ring.

Yes. Until BotW2 comes along.

I'm 55 hours into ER and getting bored. By comparison I've put literally 10x that into multiple BotW files and could still play it all day. So no.

At least BotW is a better comparison than the already tired Skyrim or Witcher 3 comparisons.

But the answer is that it depends on what you care about more: Elden Ring is a very much an action-first game. Don't get me wrong, there is a beautiful (and also beautifully ugly) world to explore. But ultimately your goal is to kill things and try not to die (but you will die a lot). Elden Ring is also very much an RPG in the traditional sense. You have stats to increase and a variety of builds. Gear is very important. BotW is all about exploration and puzzles. The combat serves its purpose but is hardly in-depth. The only two stats are health and stamina and gear has never been less important in a Zelda game as it is all disposable.

Based on my last 20 hours with it.... BotW is better.

I cant really explain why except ER is getting kinda boring to me.

Elden Ring easy. BotW was fine but lacking in a number of ways.

I find Elden Ring more addictive. Mainly because of its combat.

That said, I do think BOTW did its style of open-world better.

I still put BOTW slightly above Elden Ring =]

Probably because it's all combat with not much breaking it up. Zelda has puzzles and more fun movement and stuff to experiment with in the open world.

An Elder Scrolls game with this combat and no level scaling would be crazy for me personally. Although if combat and character builds are exactly what you want from an open world RPG I don't think there's gonna be anything better than this.

And that's it. Elden Ring has deeper combat against foes that are more challenging and has coop and competitive PvP which will serve to give the game additional longevity. Breath of the Wild, despite having a smaller world than Elden Ring, it is designed better in various ways, it is more original and fresh than Elden Ring and there are more things to do.

From Software has been reskinning the same assets from Demon's Souls to Elden Ring, so even though there are some cool designs that standout they lose a lot of points from all of the rehash and they only have themselves to blame. No matter how differently they try to make the Hollows seem they can't fool me or convince me to care. Also the copy paste with Elden Ring's world and dungeons is obvious.
