33 y/o Katelyn Samples from Atlanta, Georgia is spreading awareness on a super rare condition called "uncombable hair syndrome" that causes her son's hair to grow in ALL directions making it IMPOSSIBLE to comb down!!

She says her 2 y/o, Locklan's hair started to grow at 5 months old when she and her 33 y/o husband, Caleb thought the odd texture was a sign that it would be curly

But a few months later people suggested he could have the syndrome and to get it checked by a specialist who later confirmed that he is one of only 100 in the WORLD who has this!!

She said "We were like, huh? what is this? We knew it was different but didn't know exactly how. And then it kept growing and growing"

They didn't realize how different he was until this summer when a stranger messaged her to ask if he was diagnosed with it as she had no idea this was a thing

She went into a tailspin and called a pediatrician who told them to look into this as they hadn't heard of it until a dermatologist confirmed that their child had this syndrome where the anomoly of the hair causes it to grow in all directions making it impossible to comb or brush down

It's also called spun glass hair that has a dull texture where under a microscope causes the hairs in triangular in shape rather than cylindrical.

Katelyn was shocked to hear of this but were told to not be concerned as they rarely wash his hair unless it gets dirty though they do get a lot of comments from people commenting on his odd hair

She is thankful to know what this syndrome is now but wonders what he will think when he reaches teen to adult age and if possibly SHAVING it would be an option

He's a cute baby right now so it doesnt matter. It really depends on how thick his hair grows in. If its thin it will seem wispy and like he's balding, especially with a light hair color like blonde. When he grows up, if he gets a well shaped skull he could rock a buzzcut. If it were me I would want Einstein style for a while.

He'll probably get a hair cut when older but even if he doesn't that's not a bad hairstyle.

If by his mid-teens, he becomes a punk rocker, or 80's haircuts come back in style, this kid is SET.

Good point. I had blonde, curly hair when around that age and now not blonde and hair is somewhat straight.

I'd ask my kid what they wanted.

Eh, just keep it trimmed and own it, I say. Seems fine.
