Swedens Socialdemocratic minority Government is presenting a pension reform together with the Far-Left and the Green party which will give 500 000 to 1 million retired folk (the ones with the lowest pensions) more money each month.

The 3 parties dont have a majority in Riksdagen but the party/parties which shoot down this reform will face voter losses in Septembers election. Many retired people are willing to vote for a different party than they normally do, according to polling, if that party implement reforms like this.

Man, all they debate about in the US is whether to decrease pensions (usually via subtle accounting tricks rather than an outright reduction).

How despicable!

Those who have built the country shall have a good pension.

Of course the neoliberal Center-Party chime in with bullshit and call the bill which would cost 9.7 billion SEK per year troubling.

But cutting taxes for the wealthy 160 billion SEK was good and sound politics (the Center-Party governed the country 2006-2014 with 3 other Right-leaning parties).

What a surprise, the left wants to give more to those who are already rich instead of those in actual need. Funny how they talk the talk but when it comes to actions, the left are no different from the right in terms of their actions primarily benefitting wealthy old people.

Almost 250k pensioners live below the EU poverty line in Sweden. Those people are the ones this bill will help. People who often had important but low-paying jobs in healthcare/elderly care/child care/factories/cleaning.
