Do you agree with this statistic about former military vets who get fat?

According to Veteran Affair Statistics, 78% of the United States Military who leave end up getting FAT or OBESE and it isn't just those who got severely injured!!

The percentage of these veterans who are overweight are 7x more likely to get fat than those who are not as those who do end up staying fit and maintained healthy eating habits were in the minority

The biggest reasons for why that is? lack of discipline for starters. Military personnel are trained to the core every day at dawn and are given strict diets to keep the muscular physique. When they are finally free from the government chains, they can go eat those tasty meals they were denied while in the army...and America is big on fast food. Others says they have no time because they have to work right when they are out and don't have time for fitness centres and lose sleep which attribute to the weight gain.

Transitioning can be hard for ex-military once they are back in the real world and that is why like the majority of the military are super fit, the majority of them are also super fat once they get out too

Do you believe this to be true?

How do I disagree with a statistic? That is weird to me. That is like saying I disagree with my thermometer saying its 72 degrees Fahrenheit

A lot of people overeat to cope with negative emotions. Probably a link between PTSD and overeating

Slightly surprising, 73.6% of american adults are overweight or obese. I would have thought veterans be a bit under the average, like 65-70% or something, not above it.

People disagree with or refuse to believe statistics all the time. Hell, a lot of right wing movements are making it a key part of their platform.

I'm close to retiring myself. Yeah most let themselves go. I'm planning a gloriously horrible freedom beard myself.

I doubt that 78% of all US military vets have served in a combat role where they were exposed to high-stress situations ... unless you count the institution itself as pretty stressful to work for.

Isnt this common sense? Like with athletes who retire? No more need to keep up the workout routine and the muscle turns to fat?

i would think it's more about having an active lifestyle that requires a lot of food, followed with no longer having that activity but keeping up the food intake

Eh muscle atrophy and gets replaced by fat is basically the same thing when people stop exercising as intensely and eating roughly the same.

We get fat before we even become veterans. Stressful job, move to more and more desk work as you promote, and we drink a lot of alcohol.

I dunno, seems in line with 78% of lardasses that waddle into my ED and complain about having a heart attack after eating processed foods for 40 years, smoking a pack a day the whole time

Not sure what we're trying to prove here
