It's not like they have actually made a game themselves in decades? They have just been a publisher for so long. In reality, Microsoft is just buying all of the IP and studios. Blizzard will still obviously exist though.

It'll probably last for a while, until Microsoft can start dismantling the infrastructure.

Ironically, since Microsoft will own the name, they could easily attach it to a new studio later and recreate Activision as a development studio. Sort of the same way that the Atari name has been passed around and attached to completely unrelated companies for a while now.
