I mean women get praised for just cleaning the house while the man is busting his ass at work...

fathers tend to get a lot more praise than mothers for doing what they should be doing.

That people tend to think of fathers as babysitters instead of actual parents. Like they're doing the mom a favor by looking after the kid instead of treating it as a normal responsibility.

Society's default is to just act like everything mother's do is wonderful. Don't act like men are getting the special treatment here.

My husband gets really angry when any one comments about how nice he is to help me with our daughter. He doesnt consider it helping, hes her father too. But people seriously give him so much praise for the smallest of things while Im criticized over everything I do.

I've heard about this but in 9 years of fatherhood I've yet to experience it honestly. Most people get that parenting isn't babysitting, and I've never received praise for watching my own kid

Honestly, this one is perhaps the biggest double-edged sword of "double standards" out there.

On the one hand, you've got father's being praised for the tiniest bit of parenting, like they're somehow going "above and beyond."

On the other, you've got people treating fathers on their own with their kids like incompetent shits at best, and abusers/kidnappers at worst. Doubly so if it's a father with a daughter.

Just let parents be parents, dammit

I watch over the kids while my wife gets a night out with the girls, ok? What's so bad about that? She deserves it!

Yeah, when special treatment is basically a nice mother's day breakfast and acknowledgement. What you don't seem to get is that the special acknowledgement is actually an expectation for mother's. If the mother doesn't fit that idealistic expectation, she's viewed as a trash mother.

There are definitely great fathers out there. But the treatment between mothers and fathers is definitely not the same.

Yea I definitely get both sides of this.

People are amazed that I'll stay with my daughter while my wife goes out to enjoy a girl's day or something with her friends.

On the other side, if I go out with my daughter to the park or something I'll get weird looks from people, especially other moms. I've even been asked a couple of times if she's really my daughter.

It's annoying.
