Florida is gonna end up in a similar spot with a higher death rate due to their low vaccination participation in some areas.

Omicron is running rampant right now. People are catching COVID all over, sadly.

It's going to get really bad with Christmas, too.

It's a extremely congested area against a very spreadable virus that can evade the vaccine.

Of course NYC is going to get alot of cases, everyone there could have been vaccinated and they'll still have a massive wave

Yeah I just found out I may have been exposed to the coronavirus and theres literally no testing available near me (I live near NYC).

This countrys a fuckin joke and I cant believe that people arent ashamed of themselves for the way this pandemic is going.

Yeah. I have heard the wait to get tested is 6 hours in some areas. People cant afford to miss work and just arent getting tested as long as symptoms are mild.

The real number is probably double or triple that, went to see Spider-man on Monday and there were multiple people coughing in the theater, everyone was supposed to be vaccinated to enter but they definitely did not check everyone. A lot of people are using the at home test kits and I think that doesn't count for the official statistics.

Yep. Now that we have vaccines, the crucial data is going to be the hospitalization and death rates.
  • Are hospitals getting overwhelmed?
  • Are there huge spikes in deaths?

Hopefully the relatively higher vax rate in NYC means the infections are largely reduced to minor, and the hospitalizations are largely just people who need advanced care for a bit and then get sent home.

We'll see.

Cases doesn't mean deaths. We shouldn't be so shocked about cases. It's a highly contagious, microscopic, virus that WILL find a way to infect people. Thousands upon thousands of people get the flu every year as well. It's just part of life.

44 thousand in New York out of a population of how many? My gosh that's nothing.

I had an easier time finding a test last year than I did this year. All testing sites near me are appointment only and theyre booked out for another week.

That is assuming all of these are breakthrough cases. It could lean toward unvaccinated in NY getting infected.
