haven't seen it yet, but I wasn't feeling how the non-linear storytelling was handled in the first season, so hopefully this does away with that/improves on it.

Its something that can work on occasion (there are some famous movie examples), but it should really be a core part of the narrative. With The Witcher, it was like they just decided to throw it in for the fuck of it. It served no narrative purpose that I could see and just dragged the story down imo.

The purpose was to tell all 3 main characters stories and get them into place at the end. Since Yennerfer's tale starts about a hundred years prior to Ciri's and Geralt's connection to Ciri starts before she's even born, I don't know how else they could have done it?

^ the show is an adaptation of the books, which take place before Witcher 3, so you'll be okay without having played through it.

Fair. I figured it out by Episode 3 or 4.

And there's a funny joke about this issue in the latest season, btw, so you're obviously not alone with that criticism.

The first season was pretty mediocre but what REALLY makes me uninterested is that the first season also covers basically all the best stuff Sapkowski wrote. The actual novels are a very mixed bag and actively pretty bad by the last book

I'm only on epi 3 but it's definitely better than the first season. Small stupid gripe--anyone else slightly annoyed that the whole time they're supposedly in the cold (they're still at Kaer Morhen where I'm at) and it's snowing but you can't see anyone's breath? Again, small gripe...

Something else I noticed is when theyre in forests theyre very clearly curated (trees have no branches, etc.). Speaks to the low budget.

It's overall good. At a minimum it is much easier to follow. It's much more serialized so for better or worse you get fewer monster contracts of the week. Ciri and Geralt work really well together, which is important. It doesn't follow the books particularly closely but that is overall fine.

If I has two big complaints it would be:
Yen losing her magic for the season. I don't want to watch a show about magic users who can't user magic. It also means they had to manufacture a lot of drama for her plot that I just felt didn't work.
And there were a couple of characters that I felt got done dirty, Ezekel was bad but ultimately inconsequential, but Francesca was bad. She went from being a politically savvy power player and master sorceress, to someone just reacting to things.

Can you elaborate on this? Not sure I follow. In my head being more serialized would be synonymous with more monster contracts of the week, not fewer.

(Ive only watched the first episode so far.)

Serialized means the episodes are substantially about building an overall arc. The opposite of that is episodic, where each episode is largely telling a self-contained story.

Not that I mind the lack of nudity, it always feels really unnecessary even in the books, but another thing to consider is that if a show is a big success, the actors can renegotiate their contracts. That's what happened with GoT - Emilia Clarke simply didn't have to put up with gratuitous nudity anymore after she was essential to the show, and as such in a stronger position to negotiate.
