Time to be an adult and make my first vacuum purchase ever.

Id like to note that Im just buying it for my bedroom (renting a room), cause my roommates vacuum sucks (not well). I also have a dog, and one big kinda shaggy carpet over tile floor.

The big name brands Ive been reading up on are Dyson and Shark, but curious to see what everyone here uses.

I have a Dyson ball upright. I'd say look elsewhere. The hose is awkward to use since it sort of kinks where the rigid handle meets the flex tubing. And they got too fancy with the upright locking mechanism by not making it a foot pedal so it likes to unlock on any bump or threshold.

We have a Dyson V10 and it's pretty great for cleaning up after our birds. Fairly light, compact, and lasts a decent amount of time on a full charge.

Dysons are too expensive for me, I think. And Roombas are cool but I dont think it would get all the dust and dirt from my crowded room space.

Im eyeing the Shark NV352 or ZU651.

I got the Shark Lift-Away (Model UV725?) from Costco for <$200 and it's been great. I don't have a pet but it says it's good for pets.

We really ought to replace our vacuum too. It's ancient and not particularly effective. But you know, it's an expense.

You cant go wrong with the Dyson sticks. Theyre expensive, but Ive used mine every day for 3 years with no issues, and the portability while still being full powered makes it so easy to just grab and run

Hoping to see one on a Black Friday deal somewhere.

have been interested in getting a new vacuum too, def don't have much of a budget but pets are a non-factor here at least

seems like cheap bissell ones are getting noticeable (about 70% off compared to rrp) black friday deals over here (in nz), anyone know if they're worth it?

So, I ended up buying a Dyson V11 Torque Drive from Costco. It was about $150 cheaper than other places and I'm more comfortable getting a refund from Costco if it ever dies on me.

It's pretty awesome so far. Love how accessible it is, grab-n-go. It comes with a mount to hang it up but I haven't gotten around to doing that.

I just have a small hand vacuum since most of my floors are uncarpeted.
