It's either watch a let's play or longplay, or set up a network of devices and wires that's a metric fuckton of pain in my ass to make the option even remotely feasible. Short of buying a PS2 copy and plugging my PS2 in, the anime is the most streamlined way I can experience Persona 4.

I don't have access to the game. It's not on the Australian Playstation Store like Persona 3 FES is, I don't have a PSV and I'm not gonna buy one solely for Persona and open the floodgate of games that would bring, and if I were to pursue other methods of experiencing the game I think the experience would be extremely compromised.

What's the concensus on the anime? Is it a decent distillation of the plot if you've never played the game?

And unlike the P3 anime movies, it has the Social Links too

Make sure you watch it dubbed, they got the VAs for the game to reprise their roles

And then watch the Golden anime for Marie goodness

I had to drop the anime. Maybe you'll enjoy it because you haven't played P4, but I still don't recommend it. I dislike most adaptations though.

Okay, but how potato? My laptop is a budget model from 2015, it was dated when I got it. I got Valheim to run on it, but only at 1fps. That's not a typo or an exaggeration - the game progressed at one frame per second.

So I repeat: how potato can Persona 4 get?

If your computer is shitty enough then there's a decent chance the anime scenes will run really really poorly even if your in-game framerates are decent. If that does end up happening to you, then you might want to consider downloading one of these video packs.

Yeah, it is enjoyable (I'm glad they basically made the main character pick all the joke options in the anime), but I probably wouldn't want to watch it before you play the game.

So good news, my laptop can run Persona 4. I checked on a benchmarking website.

But check this out - my laptop got rated 5% on its specs, because out of the 1000 most popular games on the website, I can only run 51 of them.

The anime has some fun moments. The social link episodes are definitely the best parts and have some great moments. The actual dungeon and battle episodes are pretty trash. But I wouldn't watch it until you've beaten the game.

My biggest regret is that I didn't get it at the time and you can't buy the extra stuff on top once you've bought the base game
