the most expensive standard controller in console history at $80 and you just gotta accept that eventually they just break and you buy another. i never had issues with any console controller before, not like this. the dual shock 3 and 4 that came with my ps3 and ps4s still work just fine.

The lesson here, that the industry will never adopt, is easily repairable and replaceable components.
The closest we've ever gotten was Sega carts that had removable save-RAM batteries.

Might buy 3 more pro controllers at the end of the Switch's life just to preserve some way to play the games in a party setting smh

My gf's joycon started drifting earlier this year and she barely used the damn thing. My joycon from my original Switch never had drift, but I traded it in for that revised model (did it for the slightly better battery life + 2 brand new joycons) in 2019. I played the revised Switch a hell of a lot less and almost exclusively with the Pro controller. Now mine is drifting.

If Nintendo isn't willing to fix it they should be forced to license it out to third parties.

Videogame companies are too stingy to make optical analogs, and gamers are too stingy to buy them anyway.

Losers. Nintendo has failed to impress me for over a decade and they keep taking every opportunity to make themselves look worse.

What you are saying is considerably true for various reasons.... Lackluster system specs, overpriced shitty quality joycons, bad online, charging twice as much for premium online subscription to enable you to play a small amount of N64 and Sega Genesis games on the Switch, incredibly small amount of limited editions and amiibo enabling scalpers, limited time releases on some physical AND digital games, full priced remasters with hardly any considerable improvements, etc.. If I didn't love some of their IPs I would have abandoned them long ago as well.

Nintendo way too often gets away with just throwing their hands up and saying "Idk who cares deal with it" and just moving on like there's not unfinished business and other shit that deserves addressing from them.

And when they do address anything, it basically boils down to "Idk who cares just deal with it".

So how do you know when you have drifting or is it like you know it when you see it? Ive had my Switch since launch and Ive never had any issues with the Joy-Con not working. But maybe it has and it just wasnt noticeable to me.

But I also primarily play using the Pro Controller so that could be a big factor.

For me, I first started noticing it browsing the eshop. Relatively small drifting up or down will constantly scroll.

I have $10 counterfeit PS3 controllers that are now well over 10 years old that don't have joystick drift. (Or to be more accurate - I have three of them, of which one has always had the drift and the other two don't and never have. I have a fourth similar-age, but legit, PS3 controller as well, which also has no issues.)

I call bullshit on your crap Nintendo.

Is it incompetence, though? Or is it just that it's cheaper to not fix it, and more profitable for people to keep buying new ones?

Keep in mind this is the same console that is notorious for the "sales" being total jokes.

And how many people do that instead of just tolerating it or buying a new one? It can still be profitable to allow an error for those reasons and fix it for those who complain, if not that many people complain.

They absolutely did. The issue is the way businesses work. They have likely locked in the analogue sticks at a low price, and changing it to something that doesnt break will increase the cost up past whatever their loss is for handling replacements. This isnt an engineering fault, (well the fact the issue existed to begin with is) its a management issue

It's not their fault that it happens (beyond them making low-quality hardware in the first place), but you can sure as hell count on them playing it to their advantage.

Interestingly Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft all currently use the same joystick module. So it's probably gonna be a lot more common this generation unless Nintendo's issue is something else.
