Hes generally against new characters and backstorys. This is what I'm thinking. Yes he's been demanding on projects he's not in charge of, like Mario RPGs and stuff, but this isn't a video game. So for once, seems like he'll actually be in a position where people can tell him no lol. Honestly this movie seems like it's Nintendo trying its hardest to take Mario as a brand to the next level. Miyamoto wanted the Mario brand to be consistent across all games. So no focus on story, same core cast of characters for the most part etc. I don't think Mario + Rabbids contradicts any rules. Look at top grossing franchises of all time... and Mario is up there big time for sure, but with a catch. You'll notice all these franchises that seem to have a great variety of reasons why they are at the top, but Mario.. it's all because of his games. They're desperately trying to find ways to break into the other markets with him. The lego, the movie, the theme park, these are all attempts at trying to make Mario truly a character they can build an empire with in the same way Disney did with Mickey.
