Current Events > So I just started mass effect 2, and honestly so far, I prefer the first game

I know everybody says 2 is the best one, and granted Im only like 2.5-3 hours in to it so far, but as of right now I was enjoying the first game a lot more.

It felt way more like a unique game, and felt way more like an actual rpg. So far this game is way more streamlined, casual-friendly, and less unique feeling.

People said the first game doesnt hold up; and I realize the legendary edition apparently made a ton of improvements, but I think it held up great.

Idk Im still enjoying the sequel, but it feels so much less ambitious than the first game so far. I hope it starts to grow on me more tho because so many people consider ME2 one of the greatest games ever, and definitely the top among the trilogy.

every body loves 2 for the character interactions and the Suicide Mission but yeah there's just things about 2 that make it feel like an awkward middle child at times.

Also a lot of the missions are like... short. Like "20-30 minutes this just started getting good and now its over" short

And Im sad because my old crew is mostly gone right now and I really miss my boys wrex and garrus (who I used on literally every mission in the first game lmao)

Yeah I was expecting 3 to be more like that from all Ive heard over the years but Im surprised how much I already feel it in 2

Story wise, 1 is my favorite ME game. But what I will say about ME2 is that you'll probably like it the more you play it. Give it some time.

If it's not the best game in the series, I would still call it one of the best gritty video game sequels ever made.

I do plan to play the whole trilogy since I got the legendary edition and have never played the series before. And Im glad to hear you say it will grow on me, I am still quite early

I would give it a few more hours, sounds like you haven't been to Omega yet or started to recruit your team. I always say the human teammates in the Mass Effect franchise are nowhere near as fun as the alien ones.

The first ME was a great starting point for the lore of the series, ME2 is when the universe felt like it came alive, especially that first moment when you walk in Afterlife

Exactly how I felt.

It's still worth it to go through the whole trilogy, but ME1 will always be my favorite despite the shortcomings like the awful inventory.

2 got a serious presentation bump. its gunplay improved and its side characters and side content got better. everything else is a mixed bag compared to the first with the devs answer to fixing things meant ripping it out.
