A retired Detroit fire lieutenant who shot at a Black teen after he stopped at his Rochester Hills home to ask for directions reportedly has his sentence reduced and will be eligible for parole in May.

Jeffrey Zeigler, 56, was resentenced last week to 30 months to 10 years in prison, Fox 2 reports, after the Michigan Court of Appeals determined the now-retired judge who first handled his case exceeded sentencing guidelines without proper explanation. Zeigler was previously not due for release until October 2022 at the earliest, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections website.

Oakland County jurors convicted Zeigler of assault with intent to do great bodily harm for shooting at Brennan Walker, then 14, in 2018 after he knocked on his door to ask for directions to Rochester High School. Home surveillance footage showed Zeigler fire at Walker from his porch with a shotgun as the teen ran away.

Zeigler, who had a previous misdemeanor conviction involving a firearm, said he thought Walker was an intruder. He also refered to him as "colored" when recounting the incident to police, a detective testified.

Walker's mother blasted the lighter punishment in an interview with Fox 2:
"What concerns me the most is the message that was sent a white judge gave a former white firefighter six months for possibly murdering a Black boy on camera and lying about it," said Lisa Wright. "I know hes going to get out in May. I dont think theyre going to listen to my cries. I dont think theyre going to listen to the mental anguish Ive been through."

Wtf is wrong with that judge

If its any consolation cops dont fare well in prison. And I swear inmates can sniff out a cop. Have a co worker who's a ex cop (his story is he got fired and black listed for arresting a city councilman) and his first day on the job inmates where saying "thats a fucking cop"
