Started out rough. Guess it being pixel based I wasn't expecting a battle system that was as brainless as im accustomed to such as mash attack and heal as needed.

I'm starting to get the swing of things though completed primroses and olberics chapters

Primrose if you mean character. Was between her and the hunter chick. I surprised at how little characters dont seem to be fighters.

If you had a switch you could just try the demo first to find out it's just a watered down Bravely Default.

But at least it looks pretty and the music is fantastic.

I did exactly that. Never played bravely default.

I prefer action based rpgs. But a broke hand has forced me to look for something I can play slowly.

Idk how to make that more simple but I'll try.

I'm used to final fantasy for the most part on jrpgs. So the over reliance on weaknesses and the boost system overwhelmed me at first as im used to early game enemies going down in one or two regular attacks. First time i tried I died on the second battle.

But I got a handle on it now I'm enjoying it.

I meant final fantasy generally is brain dead in terms of battle systems.

Junction was the only one that seemed complex at first glance. 13s is hectic but easy enough to understand

10 through 13 though are the only final fantasy games that forced me to use strategy instead of strong arming my way through

I fear that may happen when I get past the characters I'm interested in. Olreics chapter didnt really wow me. I only went for him second cause I figured I needed someone who was a heavy hitter. Do like his voice even if it seems typical.

Only characters that seem interesting are primroses the huntress chick and therion the theif. I'm probably going for the cleric next though cause every party needs a healer and I assume she does that

Edit: I mean interesting as in their story/background. I play jrpgs for story more than gameplay

I mean the combat typically takes more effort than most Final Fantasy games. The weakness thing is huge and if you don't work at exploiting that and plan accordingly for fights they can get much more difficult.

Yep ive learned that. Not thrilled but ff 10 kinda did it. But so far the atmosphere and story telling is enough for me

I wish golden sun would continue. I could spam attack in that game but the combat system was fun enough i wanted to use different stuff.

I found the game somewhat challenging, but nowhere near way too hard or something. I kind of appreciated that it wasn't just brainless pick the most powerful attacks against bosses and spam weaker attacks against random enemies.

It's nowhere near as punishing as some turn based games though.

Yeah after getting the hang od things guardian of the flame was the first thing that challenged me. I had a full party by that point so surviving all 3 of the whisps suicide bombing me wasnt a option at my level.
