Played it for a few hours last night. Definitely has that newer DOOM vibe.

I know jack shit about Warhammer so I can't speak to how well the game's plot relates to the overall lore, which may also be affecting my ability to get immersed in the story, but I'm not playing this game for its Shakespearean qualities. I'm playing it to run around and murder the fuck outta baddies. And I'm all outta bubblegum.

It's definitely a run-n-gun, keep on the move, stay pressing the enemy type of game. Even has that mechanic where you can earn health and ammo by running up on an enemy and pulling off a gruesome melee attack. Your character moves at a fast pace. You can wall run and parkour around the level. You unlock a grappling hook at one point that opens levels up like crazy. I had to adjust the reticle speed down a bit. Probably programmed for KBM (or more likely that I'm just old and slow) but I had aim assist turned off and kept aiming past the enemies, like I would try to aim but the reticle would spin a tad too fast/twitchy and I'd shoot the wall behind them.

You get a dog which they put on a cooldown so that's sorta lame but I understand why they did it that way. Dog can mark enemies on the map for you and attack or distract enemies, and not having the cooldown would make it a bit too OP.

I haven't encountered much enemy variety in the opening levels, but there's sorta loot drops and shit in the form of hidden chests. There's a bit of RPG progression to it, in the form of cybernetic upgrades.

tl;dr - if you're finished with Eternal and looking for something to scratch that itch, you might wanna check this game out. I wouldn't put it on the same level as DOOM, but it's a solid game (with the caveat that I've only played 3 or4 levels so far)
