in terms of 3D games, I actually prefer 9 and 10.

But I always find myself booting up a fresh file of FF7 when I have a casual RPG itch and some time to spare. Theres just something about the gamefeel of 7 that makes it really easy to get into.

Maybe it helps that 7s story is pretty streamlined. 9 takes about an hour or so before youre free, and 10 makes you go through multiple hours of story, a tutorial path, and a sports minigame before it really feels like youre playing the game proper lol

Nah. I prefer the characters, story, setting of 9 and 10. In terms of gameplay, Id even say 10 has the most satisfying combat encounters, since every mob-roster seems designed with the games job system in mind, and support/status/debuff abilities actually feel like theyve got general usefulness outside of niche cheese strats.

But 7, man. It just feels so fucking smooth.

Always loved IX.

VII is great- I probably grew fonder of it as the years went by.

Same. It's got a lot of parts to enjoy along the way. FFVI was probably my best time playing an FF, followed by XII, but I've only played each the once.

I've always seen it as the beginning of the FF downfall. I think I've beaten it once but have tried to play it at least another 3 times.
One reason why I'm always bored with it is the combat music. The music in most other FF start up really quick with a great beat but in X it takes about 43 seconds to get to the good part. It doesn't help that many fights can be over before those 43 seconds.

I also disliked the story and the characters but since it's been so long since I've beaten the game I don't think I can critique it properly.

If only ff9 of ff10 had some sort of save system you could use after the tutorial section. Sadly the technology just doesn't exist.
